What We Offer
The City and County of Denver offers competitive pay commensurate with education and experience. New hires are typically brought into the organization between $105,000.00 - $110,000.00. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

The City and County of Denver has announced furlough days, or unpaid days off, for most employees to meet a budget shortfall in 2025. There are two fixed furlough days for all limited (temporary positions with an end date) and unlimited (permanent) employees on August 29th, the Friday before Labor Day, and November 28th, the day after Thanksgiving. If you receive an offer for this position, your annual pay will determine whether you are required to take additional furlough days. Details will be discussed during the offer process for selected candidate(s).
Location & Schedule
The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. In this position you can expect to work on site at a Denver International Airport office facility 3 days per week. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.

The Department of Finance at Denver International Airport is currently seeking a qualified Accountant Supervisor. This position is primarily responsible for leading a team of senior accountants, overseeing period close activities, journal entries, reconciliations, and compliance with accounting standards and internal policies. This hands-on role supports financial reporting, audits, and system expertise while mentoring staff and advising management.
Supervise a team of two or more senior-level accountants; mentor staff, set goals, document and evaluate performance, provide feedback, and recognize achievements.
Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring all activities are completed on time.
Review and approve journal entries prepared by general ledger accountants for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
Reconcile balance sheet accounts and review team-prepared reconciliations; investigate variances and post adjustments as needed.
Serve as a working supervisor by performing advanced accounting tasks and analyses; advise management and liaise with the City of Denver Controller's Office.
Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and fiscal accountability rules; draft and update policies as needed.
Stay current on new GASB standards, assess their impact, and train staff to maintain compliance.
Act as subject matter expert in key financial systems (e.g., Workday, DebtBook, future reporting tools).
Assist in preparing financial statements and reports.
Support internal and external audits by preparing workpapers and responding to inquiries.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:
Five (5) years of full performance level professional accounting experience analyzing transactions, reconciling accounting discrepancies, and preparing financial reports
Three (3) years of supervisory experience
Advanced Excel skills, experience using Workday financials, and familiarity with financial reporting systems
CPA license
A reliable team player, with effective communication skills, motivated, adaptable, and open-minded
Demonstrated leadership skills, including coaching, team building, conflict resolution, and training
The ability to work effectively independently and within a team in a deadline-driven environment
Knowledge of accounting and financial reporting requirements (GASB and GFOA)
Mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy
Required Minimum Qualifications
Education Requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of full performance level professional accounting experience reconciling accounting discrepancies, analyzing expenditures, and preparing financial reports.
No substitution of experience for education is permitted.
Additional appropriate education may be substituted for experience requirements.
