JOB SUMMARY

The Graphic Design Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting the Club Sports Marketing & Media team through creative visual content and brand consistency. Reporting to the Assistant Athletic Director of Marketing & Media, this position is responsible for producing high-quality graphic materials across print, digital, and apparel platforms. The Graphic Design Coordinator will develop visual assets for social media, promotional campaigns, team jerseys, and official publications, while also maintaining and enforcing departmental branding guidelines. This role will support over 40 Club Sports teams, including primary responsibility for the design needs of Men’s D1 Hockey, Men’s Lacrosse, and other club sports programs.

This position also supports photography needs including media day coverage, team and individual athlete portraits, and live event documentation. The Graphic Design Coordinator will serve as a mentor and training support for student workers in academic integration roles and oversee the work of the Design Graduate Assistant.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Graphic Design & Branding:

  • Design print materials, social media graphics, web banners, promotional signage, and branded merchandise.
  • Lead the creation of jersey designs in alignment with team and brand identity.
  • Ensure adherence to Club Sports and university branding guidelines across all visual content.
  • Produce design content for departmental needs such as annual reports, coach manuals, and special projects.
  • Maintain and update templates for efficiency and brand consistency.
  • Independently review and proof all design work—including personal projects and intern submissions—for accuracy in content, grammar, and brand alignment prior to publishing or printing, ensuring all deliverables meet professional standards. 
  • Support individual team’s season branding campaigns, marketing strategies, social content, including season graphic packages, nationals graphics, game-day promotions, support special events and summer programming as needed, etc.
     

2. Social Media Graphics

  • Create and manage visual assets for Men’s D1 Hockey, Men’s Lacrosse, and various Club Sports social media platforms.
  • Create and turnaround social media content quickly as situations can arise at any time
  • Collaborate with the media team to produce timely, engaging, and visually aligned content.
     

3. Photography

  • Capture and edit team photos, individual headshots, media day portraits, action shots, and event coverage as needed.
  • Organize and archive photography assets for ongoing and future use.
     

4. Supervision and Training

  • Organize and archive photography assets for ongoing and future use.
  • Provide training and guidance for academic integration students involved in graphic design roles.


5. Maintain file organization and tracking documents for all projects given and be able to provide status updates as requested 

6. Other duties as assigned.

7. Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services, and leading industry performance benchmarks.

8. Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES   

This position is responsible for 1 part-time hourly scholarship position. Interns and practicum vary per semester.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS

Education and Experience: 

Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or related field. 1–3 years of professional design experience preferred (internship experience considered). Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Lightroom). Strong understanding of visual storytelling and branding principles. Photography experience and knowledge of DSLR camera operation. Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills. Ability to take initiative on future projects and offer creative ideas and solutions to the team Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Passion for sports and familiarity with athletics or team environments is a plus.

ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES ESSENTIAL TO THE FUNCTION OF THE JOB

Communication and Comprehension:

Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well-articulated information. Clearly demonstrate understanding and proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud. Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner. Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University to a variety of business and community customers and associates. Strong organizational skills. Excellent computer skills.

Problem Solving:

Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.

Physical and Sensory Abilities:

Occasionally required to travel to local and campus locations. Frequently required to sit for extended periods to perform desk-work or type on a keyboard (If not administrative duties, such as labor, define general physical abilities. Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally. Occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the building. Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business. Regularly lift 10 or fewer pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work Environment:  

The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled office setting. It is well-lit, and the noise level is moderate.  (Define if outdoor, dusty, weather conditions, etc.). Seasonal outdoor events depending on sport – includes night and weekend hours during seasons and events.     

Driving Requirements:  

Use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) is required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position. Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
