Job Description

Job Title: Adjunct Teaching - History of Graphic Design  (DESGD 349)

Position Start Date:January 5, 2025

Required Degree:

  • Required: BFA or BA in related fields, such as Art History, Humanities, Graphic Design, Illustration, Design, etc.

  • Preferred: MFA, MA or PhD in related fields, such as Art History, Humanities, Graphic Design, Illustration, Design, etc.

  • The required degree must be completed by the start date. 

Experience: The preferred candidate should be able to teach a wide range of art-historical subjects, have professional experience, and a record of teaching at the university level.

Duties/Expectations:

The History of Graphic Design class is a survey/overview of the historical styles, movements, people, and events of design.

The content of the course should explore the history of graphic design from the earliest communication technologies to the present, with a focus on the Modern era, and examine changes in style and technologies within the discipline specifically and consider the relationship between graphic design and its cultural, political and social contexts, and the important role graphic design plays in society, social structures and cultural identities.

  • Teach undergraduate history course on a part-time basis for the graphic design area using department-approved curriculum.
  • The position will require lecturing, creating assignments, grading, critiques, communicating/responding to student emails, as well as grading, advising students, and other duties pertaining to this class and its management.
  • As an adjunct position, there are no expectations for scholarship and no additional stewardship assignments within the university, college, departments, or area.
  • Part-time faculty are not required to hold office hours, attend staff meetings, serve on committees or mentor students.

  • Brief sample of a lecture presentation with images on an aspect of type and how it is connected or a reflection of the time period in which it was created (KeyNote/PowerPoint Presentation).

This position requires the successful candidate to relocate and/or reside in Utah for the duration of their employment.
