New hires are typically brought into the organization at $25.00--$28.00/hour based on experience and education. The City and County of Denver has announced furlough days, or unpaid days off, for most employees to meet a budget shortfall in 2025. There are two fixed furlough days for all limited (temporary positions with an end date) and unlimited (permanent) employees on August 29th, the Friday before Labor Day, and November 28th, the day after Thanksgiving. If you receive an offer for this position, your annual pay will determine whether you are required to take additional furlough days. Details will be discussed during the offer process for selected candidate(s).

Location & Schedule

In this position you can expect to work on site at Denver International Airport (parking is provided)

  • Shifts consist of four (4) 10-hour days

  • Days Back Half: Wednesday - Saturday 0530 - 1600 (5.30 AM - 4:00 PM)

  • Shifts are not guaranteed and are subject to change. A pay differential of 7% to 12% may apply, depending on the shift assigned.

  • Denver International Airport is a 24/7/365 team operation. If staffing challenges occur, weather conditions warrant or an emergency crisis occurs, all DEN employees will be required to work extended hours and/or alternative shifts (includes nights, weekends, and holidays)

  • Participates in mandatory snow removal duties

Denver International Airport's Airfield Paint Department is looking for an Airport Paint and Markings Tech I. You will perform intermediate or developing journey level work in the design, installation, construction, maintenance and repair of Airfield and Public Roadway surfaces and pavement markings.

In this position, you can expect to:

  • Performs work in the installation, construction, maintenance, and repair of pavement markings on public roadways and regulated airfield surfaces using multiple materials and methods.

  • Performs pavement marking application to meet the unique requirements and specifications of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), CDOT and FAA Part 139 criteria (airfield paint and markings must pass annual FAA certification inspections on accuracy, surface presence, straightness, and retro-reflectivity).

  • Performs various tasks associated with street pavement marking projects, which includes measures, lays out, stencils, stripes, paints, and maintains lane lines, center lines, crosswalks, turn arrows, stop bars, parking stalls, curbs, airline gates, runways, taxiways, and other pavement markings.

  • Removes conflicting markings with grinder or road milling equipment.

  • Provides ground support to operators using ultra-high-pressure water blasting trucks.

  • Maintains and repairs high pressure paint and paint removal equipment to include troubleshooting and repair of paint guns, high-pressure pumps, actuators, glass bead systems, grinders, and other systems.

  • Operates highly specialized striping vehicles and equipment, which includes filling tanks with paint and reflectorized beads, programs computerized controllers for spray guns, operates gauges, paint pumps, and utilizes lasers, cameras, and optical pointers to ensure line accuracy.

  • Operates a variety of equipment used in the installation and maintenance of traffic control markings, to include but not limited to paint stripers, paint mixers, paint guns, line removers, forklifts, compressors.

  • Reads plans and drawings to accurately layout and apply pavement markings on runways taxiways, airline gates, highways, roadways, and parking lots.

  • Mixes and applies two-component epoxies and Methyl Methacrylate durable markings to airfield, roadways, and parking surfaces.

  • Operates vehicles and performs pre-trip inspection to ensure proper functioning, which includes checking fluid levels, observing leaks, monitoring condition of hoses and belts, checking tire pressure, ensuring brake lights and lights work, and performs other related inspections.

  • Operates equipment and uses tools to ensure that equipment is secure, clean, and in proper working order, which includes trouble shooting and repair of high-pressure paint systems, glass bead applicators.

  • Operates truck mounted street sweepers, truck mounted high pressure water scrubbers, blowers, and self-propelled equipment.

  • Observes all common safety practices associated with tools and equipment, monitoring work environment for safety and hazards, and ensures safety for self and others.

  • Places and removes barricades, cones, and other traffic control and safety devices in and around work areas on roadways and regulated airfield surfaces for construction and maintenance projects in accordance with traffic regulation requirements.

  • May log, record, and create daily work reports for management.

  • Participates in airfield snow removal duties and operates large, complex specialized industrial equipment in accordance with the nature of the work and the efficiency of airport specific multifunctional snow removal equipment.

  • Responds to airfield emergencies, outside of normal business hours, playing a crucial role in escorting ambulances, fire rescue vehicles, buses, and other first responders during airport emergencies in strict adherence to the emergency response plan.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Proficient in operating and maintaining diverse marking equipment, such as striping machines, hand-held marking tools, grinders, and other necessary machinery.

  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy to ensure precise and compliant application of markings.

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative while also collaborating effectively as part of a team

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate

  • Experience: One (1) year of experience in airfield or roadway markings.

  • Licensures/Certification(s): Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "B") with air brake endorsement) at the time of application. Required to obtain and maintain a current DOT physical certification. Required to obtain and maintain an Airport ID badge and LAR driving privileges. Flagger certification is required at the time of application or within six months of probation.

  • Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements
