Without your expertise, surgery doesn't happen. As an Anesthesia Technician, under the direction of the anesthesia care provider, you assist in anesthesia administration, stocking supplies and medications, maintaining equipment, monitoring devices and transporting and positioning patients.
The safe administration of anesthesia during procedures and surgeries is at the top of your mind always, so you keep the lines of communication open for your patients and colleagues, taking nothing for granted. GENERAL DUTIES
- Provides anesthesia technician services to patients under the supervision of a licensed anesthesia care provider.
- Assists Anesthesia care providers in the acquisition, preparation and application of equipment and supplies required for the administration of anesthesia.
- Coordinates the flow of supplies, equipment, and instruments between all anesthesia sites and personnel. Responsible for basic anesthesia OR turnover, cleaning and stocking. Readies supplies, mechanical and electronic equipment, to help anesthesia providers monitor and manage patients.
- Cleans, disinfects, orders, stocks and readies supplies and mechanical and electronic equipment. Ensures that equipment is clean/sterilized and functioning properly.
- Prepares, maintains and performs basic troubleshooting for the patient monitoring devices, equipment and anesthesia delivery systems pre, intra and post anesthesia and with consideration and knowledge of the needs of the various patient groups.
- Assists with transportation and positioning of patients and laboratory specimens as necessary.
- Maintains established departmental policies, procedures, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Documents and maintains preventative maintenance and quality records.
- Assists with codes as required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma / GED or equivalent and 2 years of experience in patient care. 4 years of experience in lieu of education.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Basic Life Support Health Care Provider American Heart Association
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Demonstrated knowledge of principles and policies concerning anesthesia procedures.
- Must be able to read written directions and to write legibly.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and hospital staff.
- Ability to think critically. Strong verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented and accurate. Ability to multi-task and manage time well.
- Able to function well under pressure, adapt to change and perform most functions independently; more complex functions require direction.
- Remains flexible and alters/accepts various tasks and assignments as they arise.
