Job Description

General Summary

The Apprentice Maintenance Technician is responsible for the mechanical upkeep and maintenance of equipment and facilities. This includes performing daily tasks using hand tools, power tools, and other maintenance equipment for repairs and preventive maintenance. The role is part of an apprenticeship program that combines on-the-job learning with classroom instruction. Enrollment in an approved technical school and maintaining acceptable grades is required to remain in the program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Complete all required training.
  • Enroll in and attend classes at an approved technical school as part of the apprenticeship program.
  • Complete schooling according to the approved schedule of classes.
  • Submit grades to the HR department upon completion of each course.
  • Flexibly work shifts or overtime as needed.
  • Occasionally perform duties outside the standard job description.

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of technical background or hands-on experience preferred.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to participate in a panel interview process.
  • Ability to attend technical school and maintain passing grades.
  • Follow safety rules and procedures.
  • Maintain current compliance and skills training.

Decision-Making and Organizational Impact

  • Make decisions with broad guidelines.
  • Coordinate and respond to internal and external customer questions.
  • Evaluate the quality of parts based on test results.
  • Collaborate with engineers and management on current production and new job requirements.

Working Conditions

  • Required to wear steel-toe shoes, safety glasses, and ear protection in the manufacturing area.
  • Work in a noisy environment and may be exposed to low levels of dust.
  • Maintain awareness of safety regulations, including forklift operations.
  • Stand for extended periods.
  • Lift up to 30 pounds regularly.
