Job Description:

The Division of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Louisiana State University (LSU), Baton Rouge, invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position in Power Engineering at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level.

The position is open to candidates with expertise in all areas of power engineering, including but not limited to power systems, power electronics, electric machines and drives, and the electricity market. As part of LSU's strategic emphasis on energy-related research, the successful candidate will join a vibrant and growing program in the state's flagship university.

Job Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for developing and sustaining a nationally and internationally recognized research program in power engineering while also teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses in electrical and power engineering. This includes supervising and mentoring postdoctoral scholars, graduate, and undergraduate students. The incumbent is also expected to publish impactful research and disseminate results in high-quality journals and conferences, to collaborate with industry, national laboratories, and government agencies, and to lead or contribute to multi-investigator research protocols, as well as engaging in service to the Division, College, University, and the professional community.

50% Teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels in areas of electrical and power engineering. Supervise and advise graduate and undergraduate students, and supervise postdoctoral researchers.

50% Develop and sustain a nationally and internationally recognized research program in power engineering. Publish research in highly ranked journals and conference proceedings. Collaborate with industry, national laboratories, and government agencies. Participate in University service, including committee activities.

Assistant Professor Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.

  • Applicants who are all but dissertation (ABD) and will complete the Ph.D. by the time of appointment will be considered.
  • Demonstrated record or strong potential for research excellence, external funding, and scholarly publication.
  • Commitment to effective teaching, mentorship, and fostering an academic environment.

Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.

  • Significant industry or applied research experience in power systems, electronics, or energy infrastructure.

Associate Professor Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or closely related field with 4 years of experience beyond Ph.D.

  • Demonstrated record or strong potential for research excellence, external funding, and scholarly publication.
  • Commitment to effective teaching, mentorship, and fostering an academic environment.

Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or closely related field with 4 years of experience beyond Ph.D.

  • Significant industry or applied research experience in power systems, power electronics, or energy infrastructure.
  • An internationally recognized record of scholarship, funding, and leadership.

Full Professor Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or closely related field with 8 years of experience beyond Ph.D.

  • Demonstrated record or strong potential for research excellence, external funding, and scholarly publication.
  • Commitment to effective teaching, mentorship, and fostering an academic environment.

Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or closely related field with 8 years of experience beyond Ph.D.

  • Significant industry or applied research experience in power systems, power electronics, or energy infrastructure.
  • An internationally recognized record of scholarship, funding, and leadership.

The Oskar Menton Endowed Professorship

Outstanding external candidates with extensive scholarly records will be considered for the Oskar Menton Endowed Professorship, a chaired position supported by the Oskar Menton Endowment.

The Menton Chair holder is expected to:

  • Enhance the research and scholarly productivity of the Division.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior faculty.
  • Increase the national visibility of LSU ECE and foster an atmosphere of innovation and entrepreneurship that contributes to Louisiana's economic growth and diversification.

The Chair will further strengthen LSU's ability to meet the state's growing needs in energy, digital systems, and industrial innovation.

About the Menton Endowments

Mrs. Mildred "Millie" Menton, who earned her B.S. degree from LSU's College of Business in 1940, established the Oskar Menton Chair of Electrical Engineering in honor of her husband, Mr. Oskar R. Menton, who received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from LSU in 1938. Mr. Menton worked for Exxon until his retirement and served in various roles in Baton Rouge, Germany, and Houston. Both remained deeply engaged with LSU, contributing to endowed professorships and initiatives that continue to advance excellence in electrical and computer engineering.

About the Division

Faculty in the ECE Division are actively engaged in cutting-edge research across power, communications, computing, control systems, and electronics-with six faculty members recognized as NSF CAREER awardees.
