Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Director, Safety & Security (ADSS) reports to the Director, Safety & Security (DSS) and works with staff, volunteers and leadership to ensure that they and their constituents are and feel safe. The primary objective of the ADSS is to manage the operational aspects of the Trinity Safety & Security program and to ensure the appropriate degree of protection for Trinity’s people, operations and assets. The ADSS supervises Safety & Security Managers who are assigned to individual properties or groups of properties within the Mission Properties portfolio; i.e. 76 Trinity Place, Trinity Church, Saint Paul’s Chapel, Trinity Uptown Cemetery & Mausoleum and the Trinity Retreat Center. At times there will be other properties added to the portfolio as Trinity fulfils its business core development objectives. The ADSS understands the importance of working with all stakeholders and tenants to achieve an efficient and safe working environment. The incumbent demonstrates deep experience and in-depth understanding of corporate and public security standards, building life safety codes and procedures and experience with third-party vendors. The ADSS has knowledge and experience with contemporary building safety & security processes, procedures, equipment and compliance. The ADSS has experience in public event settings and working with all segments of the community. This position assumes the duties of the DSS as needed during absences, emergencies, etc.The salary for this role ranges from: $147,400 to $165,400.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan and supervise the management of all security operations utilizing a combined staff of Safety & Security Managers as well as contracted safety/security providers.
- Mentor and develop subordinate department personnel.
- Act as primary operational liaison to 3rd party vendors on all administrative issues (i.e. personnel, training, performance, etc.). Ensure vendor operates within the contract specifications. Ensure staffing and operating needs are met, all invoices are correct, track all invoice payments and assist in developing budget forecasts. Perform regular audits on contractor performance, records and billing.
- Assist Safety & Security Managers in managing all electronic safety & security systems, i.e. access control, intrusion detection, elevator controls, video management, visitor management, Fire, Life, Safety systems, building systems etc.
- Work with DSS to present safety updates to Trinity’s governance, senior management, staff, and congregation.
- Adhere to confidentiality rules and all other Trinity Wall Street policies and procedures.
- Perform all duties in a professional manner that promotes Trinity’s mission and core values.
Safety & Security
- Inspect, test, and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices to ensure that safety standards and government regulations are followed.
- Conduct periodic quality checks to ensure that safety & security operations policies and procedures are practiced and remain current.
- Assist DSS with ensuring compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
- Assist Safety Manager in supervision of the Fire Life Safety Director for 76 Trinity Place and other Mission Properties.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
- Coordinate annual fire and emergency planning drills.

Environmental
- Evaluate the need for and manage chemical and biological detection system within critical environments.
- Work with Safety Manager to create environmental management database for facilities using site characterization, facility permit compliance, tank management, and air monitoring systems.Emergency Management
- Develop evaluation center and establish warning system for local and global weather and disaster events.
- Develop comprehensive preparedness & emergency response plan and operations guide using risk-based planning methods and strategies.
Other
- Perform additional duties, as required.
- Assist with management of other departmental Safety and Security functions as needed.
- Adhere to confidentiality rules and all other Trinity Wall Street policies, procedures, and rules.
- Perform all duties in a manner that promotes Trinity’s mission and core values.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ACTIVITIES
- BS/BA in one of the following: Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Industrial Safety, Emergency Management etc., or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- 7+ years of experience in a senior Corporate Security, Life-Safety position, or similar role.
- Demonstrated leadership skills in managing people and customers; strong oral/written communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- Strong strategic thinker and planner; ability to apply these skills to attain short-, medium-, and long-term objectives.
- Advanced skills and understanding of safety in a variety of corporate and public environments.
- Working knowledge of all applicable life-safety standards, codes, and regulations established by federal, state, and local agencies.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills to effectively manage complex operations.
- Excellent judgement; strong problem-solving and crisis-management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Professional ethics and values in alignment with Trinity’s Core Values.
- Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate Trinity’s business and building operations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
REQUIRED AND PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CREDENTIALS
- Experience in corporate or industrial security, law enforcement or other related public protection service.
- Second language fluency is notable
