Parker Plastics, Inc. (“PPI”) is a privately-owned manufacturer of plastic bottles and containers. Founded in 1989, PPI has four custom blow molding plants located in Sand Springs, OK, Pleasant Prairie, WI, Hagerstown, MD, and North Las Vegas, NV. Parker Plastics is looking to hire an Assistant Plant Manager / Plant Manager to join our growing company and lead overall operations in our Maryland plant. This individual would join as our Assistant Plant Manager and step into the Plant Manager role upon the current Plant Manager’s upcoming retirement. - Lead team of ~7 direct reports including department heads/leaders in production, quality, human resources, customer service, warehouse and maintenance, plus oversee approximately 125 indirect reports of production team members
- Be present on the production floor, engaging with our diverse workforce daily
- Create and maintain a positive culture to drive employee retention and alignment around shared goals and objectives
- Maintain community partnerships and uphold Parker Plastics reputation in the local community and state (e.g. Maryland MEP, RMI, Chamber of Commerce, Western Maryland Consortium etc.)
- Lead and drive management commitment to personal and food safety programs
- Provide overall direction and define priorities for department managers and employees to ensure their ability to effectively achieve production goals and control costs
- Review Key Performance Indicators daily and create and implement plans to improve performance
- Identify problems and implement solutions for machine, mold, material, or procedural problems, including physically performing the job task when necessary
- Support all aspects of the employee lifecycle including hiring, training, performance management and employee development programs
- Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with all OSHA, SQF and GMP’s, company policies, and procedures
- Maximize throughput and machine efficiency by ensuring proper training and setup, ensuring equipment is always in running order, and continuously evaluating ways of exceeding standards
- Ensure all finished goods meet or exceed customer quality and shipping requirements
- Oversee and approve all plant expenses and capital expenditures
- Lead communication to all plant employees regarding business needs, goals, and results
- Share and adopt best practices with other facilities
- Work with the sales team to review and execute new projects
- Drive continuous improvement in the plant including pursuing automation, streamlining processes, and relevant grant submissions.
- Plan the most effective and cost-efficient utilization of manpower, materials, and machinery
- 10+ years in Blow Molding and/or a similar industry (familiarity with extrusion and/or injection stretch blow molding machinery and support equipment is required)
- 5+ years in Production/Maintenance/Plant Management and/or a similar leadership position
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field; or a high school diploma (or equivalent) with strong work experience
- Strong knowledge and understanding of OSHA, GMP, HACCP, SQF, manufacturing systems and processes, engineering, continuous improvement, and quality systems
- Ability to make sound business decisions, problem solve, and identify & implement solutions
- Proven ability to lead and drive continuous improvement
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong financial acumen
- Proficiency in MS Office, ERP, and other database systems
- Ability to travel as needed
- Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.
- Some travel required. Must be able to fly or drive for extended periods of time.
- Exposure to typical office noises regularly and occasional exposure to loud noises in our production facility and warehouse.
