Job Description

Assistant Professor of Computer EngineeringThe University of Mary is seeking a full-time faculty position in Computer Engineering or Computer Science. Teaching and developing computer engineering courses and labs, securing funded research projects, developing industry contacts,  serving on committees, and participating in the ethical, moral, and leadership formation of our students are crucial aspects of this position as well as the ability to integrate and synthesize into the Computer Science and Engineering courses the broad-based liberal arts knowledge and values that comprise the core curriculum for all students at the university.All faculty are expected to demonstrate a willingness to support and advance the Christian, Catholic, and Benedictine mission and identity of the University of Mary (see https://www.umary.edu/about/mission-identity).Responsibilities Include:
  • Teaching undergraduate courses in the fields of general engineering and either computer engineering or computer science.
  • Developing courses and curriculum
  • Able to work on proposals for funded research
  • Interacts positively and effectively with faculty, staff, and students to improve program operating practices and outcomes.
  • Assumes a leadership role in setting goals for academic achievement, student recruitment, and student retention.
  • Leads and supervises ongoing program improvements based on accreditation standards, program objectives, and university competencies.
Qualifications and Requirements Include:
  • Required: Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering with experience in computer science and computer engineering.
  • Experience teaching a variety of lower and upper division Computer Science and Computer Engineering courses and labs is preferred
  • Experience teaching courses relating to the liberal arts or teaching Computer Science at a liberal arts college is preferred.
  • A Ph.D. in appropriate area is preferred, Masters required, no specific sub discipline is sought. Industry experience is considered favorable.
  • Upholds and supports the Christian, Catholic, Benedictine mission of the University of Mary
  • Supports the ongoing implementation of Ex Corde Ecclesiae, the apostolic constitution on Catholic colleges and universities
  • Builds a culture of ready and earnest hospitality in the Hamm School of Engineering and throughout the university, in accord with Saint Benedict’s admonition that all be received as Christ
Knowledge and Skills
  • Teaching at the college level.
  • Responsible for providing instruction on a wide range of computer science and engineering courses.
  • Programming with C, C++, Bash shell scripting.
  • Knowledge of the Linux Operating system is preferred.
  • IOT, Embedded systems, microcontrollers, FPGA’s, and assembly language coding is preferred.
  • Instruct students on how computers work, including the basic science and mathematics behind their operation and the hardware and the software built on those foundations.
  • Teach how to write computer programs, algorithms and programming languages.
  • Keep records of grades, grade papers, and perform other administrative duties as needed.
  • Create projects designed to enhance lectures.
  • Ability to guide and mentor students in engineering
  • Ability to work closely with other faculty members
  • Ability to serve on committees in the University and the Community
