Position Summary:
Excel Engineering is seeking an Automation Field Engineer to provide hands-on field support to the Owner's Automation team for DCS/PLC/SCADA/BMS installation, loop checking, and commissioning activities in a regulated biopharma facility.

Key Responsibilities:
Perform daily field verification of automation scope using digital checklists:
Instrument installation (transmitters, control valves, analyzers) per hook-up drawings
PLC/DCS panel wiring, I/O termination, and fiber/copper network cabling
Cabinet purge systems, grounding, and cable bend-radius compliance
Device nameplates, tag numbers, and loop folder organization
Execute or witness point-to-point loop checks and document results in loop folders
Track automation punch-list items and software/hardware discrepancies
Assist with FAT/SAT logistics, red-lining of HMI screens, alarm databases, and cause & effect matrices
Maintain live I/O lists, instrument index, and network architecture markups
Support cyber-security checks (patch levels, port security, VLAN verification)
Generate daily reports and participate in automation coordination meetings
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Automation, Controls, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering
- 4-7 years of hands-on automation experience (pharma, biotech, or FDA-regulated industries strongly preferred)
Required Qualifications:
- Practical field experience with at least one major platform (DeltaV, Rockwell PlantPAx/ControlLogix, Siemens PCS7, or Ignition)
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, termination drawings, and network topologies
- Proficient in Bluebeam, Procore, Excel, and Visio
- Strong troubleshooting skills with multimeter, Hart communicator, and laptop-based diagnostics
- Comfortable in construction environment and willing to wear full PPE daily
Preferred Qualifications:
- GAMP 5 or ISA-88 training
- Basic understanding of ISA-18.2 alarm management and 21 CFR Part 11
- Experience with OSI PI, AVEVA, or AspenTech historians
