Avionics Engineering Manager (Level K)

Boeing Commercial Airplanes’ Electronics Systems Design Center has an exciting opportunity for Avionics Engineering Manager to join the team in Everett, WA.

Position Overview:

This position will support product development and production support. In this role you will apply your leadership skills, technical expertise, and commitment to quality to lead a team of engineers in supporting design and certification of many/all current and future BCA programs.  In this capacity, we coordinate and cooperate with diverse groups, from virtually all engineering teams, to pilots, operators and regulators to deliver the safest, most efficient aircraft in the modern global airspace system.

The Avionics team are responsible for development, certification and support of a broad array of Systems, Hardware and Software on all BCA programs. Avionics products include communication, navigation, surveillance, inertial, displays and flight management

Position Responsibilities Include:

  • Oversee and represent Avionics teams for the development, planning, and execution Avionics Systems through the phases of Type Inspection Authorization (TIA), Amendment to Type Certificate (ATC), and Entry Into Service (EIS).

  • Provide technical guidance and oversight for the team's Development Assurance Plan under ARP4754A, including execution of software regression tests, to ensure progress toward achieving the certification plan.

  • Serve as the primary interface between the Avionics Design Center and development and production programs to communicate program progress and mitigate risk.

  • Manage communications with avionics suppliers: convey program priorities, hold suppliers accountable to schedules, and organize regular meetings to resolve technical statements of work (SOW) and align schedules.

  • Interface with regulators, suppliers, internal Boeing stakeholders, pilots, customer airlines, and industry relations to support program objectives.

  • Oversee requirements development and design work for managed systems, from higher-level aircraft requirements to lower-level supplier requirements.

  • Provide oversight and technical management of supplier development programs.

  • Oversee test scheduling and execution, and manage PR (problem report) troubleshooting and resolution in the labs.

  • Manage certification compliance and regulator engagement on relevant system regulations; develop and approve compliance plans and issue papers, and oversee execution with the FAA and foreign certification agencies.

  • Oversee creation of system-owned flight test plans, WSRDs, and procedures.

  • Manage problem reports (PRs) and flight squawks throughout flight test to support certification and entry into service.

  • Track and manage statement of work on time performance.

  • Track and manage budget and schedule commitments across multiple programs with program leadership and Design Center teams.

  • Eliminate and mitigate technical and program-management-related roadblocks and risks across the team's statement of work.

  • Develop, grow, mentor, and retain the Avionics skill teams; attract and hire required talent.

Work Authorization:

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at Everett, WA.

This position requires travel 10% of the time domestically and internationally.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.

  • 5+ years of experience in an engineering design environment

  • 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams (Leading teams, managing teams etc)

  • Experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing complex projects from conception to completion.

  • Proven ability to lead with the Boeing Values

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of innovative solutions in engineering challenges.

  • Demonstrated ability in team building, coaching, and employee development to enhance team performance and engagement.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical information to all stakeholders.

  • Solid technical background with the ability to guide and mentor the team.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary Pay Range:

$147,050 - $198,950
