Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Design Director will lead the design vision, including typography, visual storytelling and multimedia of Trinity Church NYC brand identity in support of institutional objectives and activities. The Design Director will be responsible for setting and executing design standards for digital, printed and environmental graphics across channels and touchpoints. The ideal candidate will combine strategic thinking with hands-on design expertise, to ultimately drive innovation and excellence for all design initiatives.

The annual salary range for this position is $172,000 to $191,000.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and designs innovative visual solutions for program and marketing materials and campaigns, consistent with messaging and programming strategies of Trinity Church NYC, while clearly implementing Trinity’s brand.
  • Develop and lead direction for visually engaging and innovative design systems and outputs that build and enhance Trinity Church brand recognition and audience experience across digital platforms (web, mobile, social media, email campaigns, video) and traditional media (print, environmental).
  • Foster a collaborative and creative work environment, mentoring and inspiring team members to push creative boundaries and achieve excellence.
  • Manage and ensure consistency of brand system across Trinity Church applications.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver cohesive design solutions for Trinity Church programs, activities and initiatives.
  • Utilize analytics and user feedback to measure the impact of design work on key metrics (e.g., user engagement, conversion rates, brand awareness).
  • Implement design best practices and optimize workflows to enhance efficiency without compromising quality.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies and design tools to continuously improve team capabilities and processes.
  • Collaborate with external agencies, freelancers and vendors as needed to augment internal capabilities and resources.
  • Monitor project progress, resolve issues and mitigate risks to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Understands, implements, and strictly adheres to the quality standards, confidentiality, and procedures of Trinity Church NYC, especially as they pertain to upholding the institution’s mission and values.
  • Assume other related responsibilities and special projects as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ACTIVITIES

  • Ability to develop and execute a comprehensive design strategy that aligns with organizational goals and supports overall brand vision
  • Expert knowledge of digital and graphic design, brand development and management, environmental graphics, and printing and production processes
  • Highly developed aesthetic, design and visual storytelling skills with an emphasis in typography.
  • Demonstrated experience designing for a range of physical environments and spaces
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and other relevant design tools
  • Ability to effectively balance multiple priorities simultaneously, meet deadlines and work quickly when necessary
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in working in a team environment
  • Excellent problem-solving and written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and project-management skills and ability to prioritize work and distribute resources
  • Precise attention to detail with ability to manage multiple projects in highly complex, fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing priorities
  • Orientation to proactivity, using independent judgment and initiative
  • Industry knowledge and contacts (illustrators, etc)
  • Strong knowledge of production standards for offset and digital reproduction and requirements for preparing art, design and photography for print and/or electronic documents
  • Commitment to maintain and keep current with design and production techniques
  • Ability to quickly learn new applications and design trends

REQUIRED AND PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CREDENTIALS

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, advertising, fine arts, or related field preferred
  • 15+ years of graphic and/or web design experience
