Job Description

Job Summary:
Specialty Orthopedic Group is currently seeking a First Assist to join the Surgery Center team. The First Assist provides surgical assistance under the supervision of the primary surgeon, ensuring efficient surgical procedures and optimal patient outcomes.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist the surgeon during surgical procedures by providing direct assistance with surgical techniques, suturing, and tissue handling.

  • Ensure the surgical site is properly prepared, sterile, and maintained throughout the procedure.

  • Monitor patient vitals and assist with positioning and draping to ensure patient safety and comfort.

  • Provide technical assistance to the surgical team, including the preparation and handling of instruments and supplies.

  • Collaborate with the surgical team to anticipate needs during the procedure and adjust as necessary to ensure optimal surgical outcomes.

  • Ensure proper documentation of procedures in the patient’s medical records (EMR) according to facility protocols.

  • Maintain clear communication with the surgical team, providing updates and ensuring patient safety at all times.

  • Ensure proper infection control and sterilization procedures are adhered to during all surgical processes.

  • Adhere to HIPAA standards and maintain patient privacy throughout the procedure.

Job Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited surgical assisting program or equivalent experience.

  • Certification as a Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) or other relevant certifications preferred.

  • Minimum of one year of experience as a First Assist in a surgical setting.

  • BLS/ACLS/PALS certification required within 60 days of hire.

  • Strong knowledge of surgical techniques, instruments, and procedures.

  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, sterile environment.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
