The Opportunity:
CACI is looking for a Mechanical Engineering Manager to join our Optical and Photonic Solutions division and lead our mechanical engineering team in research, development, new product introduction, and product sustainment. The mechanical engineering team:
- Designs the packaging for complex subsystems with photonic, optoelectronic, electrical, and mechanical elements for R&D and production programs for U.S. government customers using software tools.
- Performs thermal and structural analyses to ensure that the subsystem design meets requirements in its intended environment.
- Produces build-to drawings and data packages and collaborating with 3rd party vendors to resolve specification, performance, and reliability issues and realize the commercial and custom-machined parts necessary to build the subsystem.
- Leads the effort to transition the design into limited-volume production, including development of assembly processes and writing of build procedures.
- Collaborates with hardware designers to jointly optimize circuit card layout.
It is anticipated that this role is 75% management and 25% individual contributor.
Responsibilities:
Manage a group of mechanical engineers and mechanical engineering managers in a highly technical environment supporting optical communications and optical sensing missions by:
Managing group member assignments to ensure workloads are evenly distributed and contract work is efficiently executed.
Support group members' career maturation by providing performance feedback and mentoring
Lead the mechanical engineering function by:
Recommending, implementing, sustaining, and improving mechanical development processes with the goal of establishing industry-best process that enable quality solutions and products.
Providing leadership in hiring and collaborating with the Recruiting Manager to seek out new avenues for recruiting technical staff
Support the design of photonic hardware by group members
Contribute to program technical management by:
Coordinating with program managers on a development approach and cost and schedule commitments that align with customer requirements
Managing staff member assignments within program budgets
Leading project team meetings and facilitating the tracking/completion of action items
Managing technical issues identified by team members and customers, defining resolution plans and managing the team to provide solutions in a timely manner
Other job expectations include:
Leading by example with respect to all matters related to ethics, compliance, and security
Traveling to other LGS Locations or Customer Sites as necessary
Proactively ensuring a safe work environment and adhere to EH&S policies and procedures
Performing other duties as required
If required, obtaining/retaining a government security clearance at the level to perform the job
Qualifications:
Required:
- Proficient use of computer-aided design and analysis software, with SolidWorks strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of finite element modeling.
- Experience in the design of complex subsystems with photonic, optoelectronic, electrical, and mechanical elements.
- Experience in electronic subassembly layout including board physical design, chassis or enclosure design, optical fiber routing, and electrical and optical connector selection.
- Experience leading or making strong technical contributions to highly multidisciplinary projects
- Demonstrated success with internal and external customer oral and written communications
- Experience testing to MIL-STD or equivalent industrial test levels, including shock, vibration, thermal, and EMI/EMC.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 7 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience.

The proposed salary range for this position is:
$131,800 - $290,000
