Job Description:
A Brief Overview
Provides expert advice on medication utilized in a long-term care setting, group home or assisted living. Provides expert guidance in medication administration in a clinical setting.
What you will do
- Conduct comprehensive reviews of residents' medication lists, assessing appropriateness, safety, and effectiveness.
- Provides recommendations to prescribers and other healthcare professionals regarding medication adjustments, alternative therapies, or potential drug interactions
- Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other staff to resolve medications related issues and optimize patient care.
- Maintain accurate records of medication reviews, recommendations and interventions.
- Educate nursing staff on medication administration, storage, and related policies and procedures
- Participates in facility quality assurance programs, contributing to the development and implementation of best practices.
- Ensure the facility adheres to all relevant federal and state regulations regarding medication management.
- Provides expert advice on medication-related matters to facility staff, residents and their families.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) Pharmacy Required
- Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.) Pharmacy Preferred
- 1-3 years Experience in an inpatient setting required. Preferred
- Complies with state and federal drug laws by reviewing regulations of state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration, and the food and drug administration; monitoring nursing unit inspections; maintaining records for controlled substances; removing outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory; supervising the work results of support personnel; maintaining current registration; studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; advising management on needed actions.
- Pharmacist Iowa Board of Pharmacy (United States of America) within 90 Days
Qualifications:
Active license upon hire, Iowa Board of Pharmacy Temporary Licensure or active Intern licensure.
