GENERAL DUTIES

  • Customer Service:

  • Effectively uses time and resources to accomplish their duties.
  • Self-starter who willingly puts forth effort and time and performs tasks with minimal supervision.

  • Appropriately uses time and attendance system, and adheres to related policies and procedures.
  • Be aware of possible compliance issues, specifically concerning fraud and abuse. Report these immediately.
  • Patient Throughput:
  • Keeps patients informed and gives periodic updates as appropriate.

  • Actively promotes and support LCMC's performance improvement initiatives (i.e., participates in ongoing education, cultural change initiatives, etc.)
  • Is receptive to differing ideas and embraces change.
  • Verbal and written communications are clear, concise and accurate; uses positive non-verbal communication effectively.
  • Demonstrates and actively promotes compliance with all state and federal regulatory and accrediting agencies (i.e., patient safety, infection control, HIPAA, etc.)
  • Adheres to the Medical Center's policies and procedures, as well as the Code of Conduct and all laws and regulations. Perform your duties in an ethical manner.
  • Ability to work on or with teams to cooperatively reach goals.
  • Appropriately documents in accordance with departmental and organizational policies.
  • Able to apply job knowledge to improve work processes.
  • Processes:
  • Identifies patient according to policy. Provides a clear and precise explanation of the procedure to the patient and/or responsible person present. Summarizes the patient's neurological status and writes a comprehensive patient history.
  • Verify order for the procedure, accurately charge for the procedure and record patient information in the EMR.
  • Measures and accurately applies electrodes according to the International 10/20 System. Ensures electrode impedances meet laboratory standards.
  • Provides appropriate patient care and detailed observations of clinical manifestations during seizures and other patient emergency situations. Prioritizes and exercises proper judgment in pressured situations. Takes appropriate action to ensure patient safety.
  • Implements alternative methods or adjust controls outside of the normative range to obtain optimal recording and can enhance abnormalities. Utilizes stimulation and activation techniques appropriately.
  • Recognize, document and eliminate artifacts and/or take proper measures to monitor artifact.
    • Safety:
  • Cleans equipment immediately after use. Performs minor maintenance and communicates with technical support to ensure proper functioning. Applies troubleshooting methods, repairs, and/or replaces instrument parts as needed or reports them to the director promptly.
  • Demonstrates appropriate use of universal precautions when delivering patient care and performs appropriate isolation techniques for patients requiring isolation.
  • Lifts, moves or transfers patients utilizing proper body mechanics to prevent self-injury or injury to others. Utilize side rails on stretchers, properly secures all patients in wheelchairs and wagons.
  • Communication:
  • Utilizes professional communication skills to facilitate the flow and completion of patients. Articulates and demonstrates a professional image when interacting with patients, other professionals, and the public.
  • Consistently projects a positive disposition performing all duties. Listens and communicate in a calm, non-defensive manner and discusses issues objectively.
  • Identify and communicates problems with supervisor, assist to adjust assignments and establish priorities. Actively participates in identifiable methods of resolution.
  • Development/Educational:
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational seminars, programs, current literature, meetings, and workshops.
  • Demonstrates a basic knowledge of neuroanatomy and physiological processes, basic electronics and general electrical safety.
  • Displays knowledge and understanding of neurodiagnostic instrumentation and pattern recognition.
  • Competent to provide training of all neurodiagnostic services to new staff technologists and students.
  • Demonstrates appropriate decision-making skills and exercises appropriate intervention during intraoperative monitoring.
  • Demonstrates flexibility of working hours and weekend call coverage to meet staffing requirements in the department.

EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1 year of experience Long-term epilepsy monitoring unit (CHNOLA)
  • 2 years of experience Intraoperative monitoring (TOURO)

  • Certification Name: Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist

  • Issuer: American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologist (ABRET)
