This is a full time M-F 8am to 5pm position. Sanford Arts works with all patients in increase wellbeing throughout the medical journey.

Summary

Working directly with patients, conducting arts-based activities. Plans, organizes, and conducts arts-based activities in order to promote the positive benefits of creativity and to improve the clinic/hospital experience. Accommodates activities to meet participants' skill level and personal preference to create a range of experiences and products based on technical knowledge and supplemental knowledge regarding benefits of creativity and the Arts in Healthcare. Works with a range of ages from children through geriatrics, range in participant ability, and varying reason for needing healthcare, although will primarily work with a cancer diagnosis. Works in multiple areas of the Sanford USD Medical Center as far as location of practice. Works directly with patients/residents, their family, caregivers, staff and peers. Works as contributing member of a team of professionals. Participates in arts programs and support activities. Theories of practice and activities offered based on current literature and studies, which have yielded results within this specific demographic: Oncology, the Creative Arts, and Arts in Healthcare.

Job Description

Practice of patient/resident-centered activities with respect to effects on the body and mind during course of disease and treatment, with particular attention to patient/resident capacity to engage in activities. Accommodates activities to meet participants' skill level and personal preference to create a range of experiences and products based on technical knowledge and supplemental knowledge regarding benefits of creativity and the Arts in Healthcare. Works with a range of ages from children through geriatrics, range in participant ability, and varying reason for needing healthcare, although will primarily work with a cancer diagnosis. Works in multiple areas as far as location of practice. Works directly with patients/residents, their family, caregivers, staff and peers. Works as contributing member of a team of professionals. Participates in arts programs and support activities. Qualifications

Must have a bachelor’s degree in one of the following: fine arts, counseling, social work, mental health, or psychology with a minor in fine arts. Those with a multi-modal/multidisciplinary arts background in addition to the current language of arts degree and extensive study in the arts or mental health disciplines will be given preference.

Preference will be given to applicants who have completed a residency or internship in a healthcare setting.

Must have proven experience in the arts. Must have proven communication skills to effectively deal with a wide range of people.

Board Certified or Board Eligible Art Therapist, Music Therapist, or Registered Expressive Arts Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Professional Counselor - Mental Health (LPC-MH), or Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) preferred.
