Job Description

Position Summary:

Franklin University, a private, independent, accredited, not-for-profit University located in Columbus, Ohio invites applicants for its Video Designer position. We’re looking for a creative and skilled Video Designer to help produce engaging videos that support Franklin University’s branding and enrollment initiatives. In this role, you will play a key part in creating high-quality videos that enhance learning, promote enrollment initiatives, and communicate institutional messages to a diverse academic audience.  You will be expected to infuse the University’s brand identity throughout all assigned and requested video initiatives.

As part of the Marketing team at Franklin University, you will collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to design visual content that supports teaching, outreach, and overall university branding. The ideal candidate has a solid background in video production, post-production, motion graphics and storytelling with an understanding of how to engage intended audiences.

Effective communication and collaboration across departments is essential in this role. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with colleagues from marketing, admissions, academics, and IT to ensure consistent messaging, smooth project outcomes, and alignment with institutional goals. This position reports to the Senior Art Director of Creative Services.

This role will work an onsite hybrid schedule.

 Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Capture high-quality video footage for various projects (events, interviews, staged commercial shoots, University-focused B-roll, etc.).
  • Set up and operate basic video equipment including cameras, tripods, microphones, and lights.
  • Edit raw footage into polished videos using basic editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Works with other designers to create motion graphical elements during the post-production phase.
  • Collaborates with Creative Services team to complete university initiatives, uphold brand requirements and implement prioritization and project timelines.
  • Organize and archive video files for easy access across the department.
  • Assist with setting up shooting locations and coordinating with on-camera talent when necessary.
  • Work with University stakeholders on developing user-generated videos and assist in publication.
  • Collaborate and maintain clear communication with freelancers to ensure they understand project objectives, timelines, brand guidelines, and deliverable expectations.
  • Familiar with project management software, proofing tools and various file-sharing platforms to streamline more administrative production tasks.
  • Ensure video content is optimized for digital platforms (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.), including upload, tag application, closed captions, and delivery.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in videography, motion graphics, design, fine arts, or related field and/or an equivalent combination of experience.
  • Basic knowledge of video production and post-production techniques.
  • Familiarity with video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Final Cut, DaVinci Resolve).
  • Ability to operate camera, lighting, and audio equipment.
  • Modality to work from home and required days in-office based on scheduling with supervisor.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
  • Portfolio and/or examples of past video/motion work (personal, school, freelance, or professional).
  • 2+ years of video and/or marketing experience.

Preferred Skills and Characteristics:

  • Degree or coursework in Film, Media, Communications, or related field.
  • Knowledge of the creative process.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of digital marketing tactics including SEO, email marketing and web analytics.
  • Understanding of emerging (industry) AI tools and active interest in AI-integration.
  • Understanding of social media video formats and trends.

Additional Notes:

  • May require additional evening and weekend hours
  • Some travel based on production shoots may be required
