ABOUT THE RESEARCH INSTITUTE:
The HSS Research Institute is dedicated to research on identifying mechanisms underlying bone biology and rheumatic conditions, and developing effective approaches for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. With a focus on tissue repair, improving surgical outcomes, autoimmunity and inflammation, genomics, new treatments, and precision medicine, the impact of our discoveries determine future directions of musculoskeletal research to best improve clinical outcomes, while serving the community in an environment that aspires to scientific excellence.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Post-Baccalaureate Researcher Program (www.hss.edu/post-baccalaureate-training-program.asp) offers more formal training in science and opportunities to present research at conferences and write manuscripts for publication, in preparation for graduate or medical school. A one-year commitment is preferred. The trainee will develop an independent project and the program offers opportunities to develop strong translational research experience relevant for individuals interested in furthering their career by pursuing graduate school in basic biomedical sciences or an MD or MD-PhD degree. The Postbac Fellow (trainee position) will work on a project title, "Role of iRhom/ADAM17-dependent TNFa and EGF-receptor signaling in development and human disease". Specifically, the postbac fellow will utilize state-of-the-art biochemical, cell biological and molecular approaches as well as animal models for human disease. The postbac fellow will work in a dynamic team of scientists and clinicians employing cutting-edge approaches to study autoimmune and musculoskeletal diseases. The lab is located adjacent to several other labs also engaged in musculoskeletal research, with a diverse background ranging from immunology to bone biology.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor's degree in biomedical field with coursework in biochemistry and cell and molecular biology.
Experience: Prefer some experience working in a research lab in the area of biochemistry, cell biology or mouse models of human disease.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS:
Prior basic science research experience preferred
Exceptional organizational skills
Strong written and communication skills
Proficient use of computers and software, including Microsoft Excel and Word
Self-motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team
SKILLS PREFERRED:
- Knowledge of Orthopedic and/or Rheumatologic terminology is a plus.
