Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated, experienced, and strategic Director, Government Affairs to join our Legal team. In this role, you will be instrumental in driving our public policy and advocacy efforts at the federal level. This role will be responsible for shaping legislative and regulatory strategies, engaging with policymakers, and ensuring that our policy priorities support the growth and impact of digital mental health.
What you'll be doing:
- Monitor, analyze, inform, and influence federal legislation, regulatory proposals, and policies related to digital health, behavioral health, privacy, AI, and employee benefits.
- Advocate for favorable policies through direct engagement, coalition participation, and public comment sessions.
- Represent the company in trade associations, industry coalitions, and advocacy groups, ensuring our policy priorities are well-positioned.
- Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, regulators, and industry leaders to advance shared goals.
- Translate complex policy developments into clear, actionable insights for internal teams, helping shape corporate strategy, business development, and market expansion.
- Keep leadership and business stakeholders informed about emerging legislative and regulatory challenges and opportunities.
- Collaborate with core teams (e.g. Legal, Product, Clinical and People) to align regulatory strategy with business objectives.
- Identify opportunities to influence rulemaking and regulatory frameworks impacting our products and services.
- Craft compelling policy briefs, white papers, and advocacy materials to educate policymakers, industry leaders, and internal stakeholders on key issues in digital and behavioral health.
- Prepare public comments, testimony, and briefing materials to support advocacy efforts.
What success looks like in this role:
- Keep a pulse on legislative and regulatory changes, flagging emerging risks and opportunities that could impact the business.
- Provide timely internal reports on rulemaking, legislative priorities, and administrative shifts.
- Draft and submit public comments on proposed regulations that align with the company's strategic goals.
- Actively participate in key industry groups, trade associations, and coalitions, ensuring our policy interests are well-represented.
- Deliver actionable policy insights to internal stakeholders, shaping corporate strategy and decision-making.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to align advocacy efforts with the company's objectives and goals.
What we expect from you:
- Bachelor's Degree
- 7+ years of experience in trade associations, government relations or industry advocacy - preferably with Hill experience in a staff role.
- Advanced understanding of the legislative process, regulatory decision-making, and how to navigate the complexities of government policy.
- Expert in, and genuine care for, expanding access to mental health services and reshaping the future of digital health policy.
- Innovative solutions, helping develop and execute strategies that advance our policy priorities.
- Critical thinking, with strong analytical skills, capable of deciphering complex legislative and regulatory landscapes to provide actionable insights.
- Comfort engaging with elected officials, regulators, corporate executives, and industry leaders - whether in a boardroom or on Capitol Hill.
- Ability to advocate for policies in high-stakes environments while maintaining professionalism, diplomacy, and ethical business judgment.
- Desire to influence, inform, and inspire, whether drafting policy briefs, advocacy materials, public comments, or speaking at events.
- Exceptional written and oral skills, able to translate complex policy concepts into compelling narratives that resonate with diverse audiences.
- Outstanding organizational and project management skills, capable of juggling multiple priorities with precision.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment, while also comfortable working independently and proactively.
The target base salary range for this position is $158,200 - $205,700, and is part of a competitive total rewards package including stock options and benefits. Individual pay may vary from the target range and is determined by a number of factors including experience, location, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations. We review all employee pay and compensation programs annually using Radford Global Compensation Database at minimum to ensure competitive and fair pay.
