Position Purpose:

Seeking world-class talent to join the world's leading distributor of automotive and industrial replacement parts and value-added services operating 5,500+ locations and servicing more than 20,000 locations in the U.S and Canada. Specifically, this role will function as the Lead Engineer to build the next generation commerce platforms for GPC. Working with a highly talented team, you'll play a key role to build and run one of the world's largest automotive and industrial replacement parts operations.

This is an engineering role with responsibility for enabling in-store and cloud payment acceptance for GPC's payment platforms. This individual must be a technologist & engineer at heart and be comfortable in enabling new technology and being hands on with the execution of the strategy. They must exhibit a deep understanding of modern technology stack and agile delivery models, demonstrated focus on customer experience, and must have a proven track record of modernizing technologies.

Close collaboration and alignment with business teams, application development teams and security will be required. As such, exceptional abilities in building and maintaining strong working relationships and organizational savvy will be required. High level communication and presentation skills are required. Ability to attract, retain, and develop engineering talent will be critical.

As a Lead Software Engineer, you will be part of a dynamic team with engineers of all experience levels who help each other build and grow technical and leadership skills while creating, deploying, and supporting production applications. In addition, a Lead Software Engineer is involved in product and tool selection, configuration, security, resilience, performance tuning and production monitoring. Lead Engineers should expect to mentor other engineers across the organization and begin to groom their delegation skills to empower their fellow engineers to drive the deliverables for the team.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of Engineers and Senior Engineers.
  • Develop, maintain, and support non-production and production systems.
  • Helps define and adheres to team working agreements.
  • Participates in all phases of the integration development lifecycle, including unit testing and ongoing support.
  • Attend daily team standups and agile ceremonies.
  • Code, test, and deploy the requirements detailed in the team user stories.
  • Collaborate and work closely with product and other cross functional teams to achieve team goals and outcomes.
  • Have a "test-first" attitude with a focus on automation.
  • Employ best practices around observability, monitoring, and system resilience.
  • Responsible for team's product design, security, code, and documentation.
  • Guide, mentor, and act as a resource to other engineers on the team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Location:

  • Work out of GPC's Atlanta office.

Desired Qualifications & Experiences

  • Degree in Computer Science or Engineering fields, or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years' experience in non-internship professional software development experience.
  • 5 years' strong hands-on coding experience in GoLang/Java and SQL.
  • 3+ years' experience with SQL data sources.
  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Experience with public cloud environments (GCP, AWS, Azure), preferably experience with Google Cloud services like GKE, Cloud Run, Bigquery, PubSub, etc.
  • Experience in CI/CD, GitHub, GitHub Actions.
  • Able to effectively communicate with end-users to determine their needs.
  • Participate, contribute, and drive Design, Code and Documentation reviews.
  • Leading and mentoring engineers within the team.

Preferred Qualifications & Experiences:

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience.
  • Experience in leading a development feature team.
  • Previous exposure to payment hardware, such as PIN pads, or payment processing.
  • Effectively communicate with the leadership and provide timely updates.
