Job Description
Coordinates accomplishment of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) System preventive and corrective maintenance activities. Assists the Maintenance Supervisor and Facilities Director in scheduling preventive and corrective maintenance tasks. Provides leadership and supervision of the HVAC Mechanic Team. Responsible for maintaining HVAC Systems at the Main Hospital and Satellite Buildings in optimal condition.
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Siemens Building Automation System Training required.
Formal HVAC System Training in air conditioning and refrigeration systems from a Vocational School or Military Technical School preferred.
Water Cooled Chiller Training from equipment manufacturers such as Trane, Daiken, McQuay or Carrier preferred.
Licensure/Certification
Must hold an EPA Certification (Universal Level) for refrigerant handling required.
Must hold a current HVAC Mechanic License as issued by the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) at the Master level required.
Experience
Minimum of ten (10) years Hospital campus or industrial/commercial HVAC work experience required.
Minimum of five (5) years Healthcare experience with demonstrated troubleshooting and repair experiences with Building HVAC System Automated Controls, Water Cooled Chillers and Cooling Towers required.
Demonstrated HVAC System Mechanical and Electrical component expertise required.
Expertise with diagnostics and repair of Central Chiller Plant Equipment and Building Automation System required.
Acute Healthcare experience as an HVAC Mechanic preferred.
Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must be able to read blueprints and other technical documentation.
- Ability to perform troubleshooting & repairs on a wide variety of Facility Infrastructure Systems including HVAC Systems and air compressors, air dryers, boilers and kitchen equipment.
- Ability to lead a team of tradesman.
- Ability to prioritize daily workflow for the team of tradesman
- Must be able to troubleshoot electrical circuits pertaining to HVAC & R equipment.
- Basic computer keyboard skills necessary for sending and receiving e-mails and entering work status updates for assigned work orders.
- Must have a working knowledge of computerized building automation systems (Siemens or equal) and be able to recognize HVAC System abnormalities due to mechanical or electrical malfunctions.
- Analytical and strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to make quality, independent decisions.
- Ability to set expectations for the team & monitor delegated activities.
- Ability to gather and skillfully analyze temperature and pressure parameters.
- Maintains a good rapport with the medical staff employees.
- Excellent leadership and organizational skills.
- Completes assignments in a timely manner .
- Communicates effectively with the supervisor and co-workers. Informs the Maintenance Supervisor of need for assistance and keeps building office managers informed regarding ongoing repairs which directly impact the physical environment.

- Demonstrated skills with diagnostics and repair of the Central Chiller Plant and the Building Automation System.
