Position Summary: The Ag Power Systems Program Instructor Assistant will play a vital role in supporting the lead instructor in maintaining a safe, productive, and engaging learning environment for high school students. This position requires strong communication skills, a safety-first mindset, and the ability to work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and students. The Instructor Assistant will primarily focus on ensuring student safety in the lab area, promoting active participation, and providing support with coursework.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety & Lab Management:
    • Assist in maintaining a safe workspace for high school students, ensuring adherence to shop rules and safety protocols.
    • Ensure students are working safely, utilizing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and correctly operating tools and equipment.
    • Be able to safely operate program equipment.
    • Assist with lab setup and tear down.
    • Maintain a clean and organized shop space.
  • Student Support & Engagement:
    • Help maintain student participation and involvement in classroom activities and lab work.
    • Ensure student conduct is in accordance with shop rules and the student handbook.
    • Assist students with classwork and tests, providing support in accordance with IEP and 504 plans as needed.
    • Ability to lead, facilitate, and engage a group of students in a professional manner.
  • Operational Support:
    • Communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
    • Utilize computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Google Suites, for various administrative and communication tasks.
  • General Duties:
    • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
    • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in hot or cold environments for short periods of time.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

  • Equipment maintenance experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of agricultural or turf equipment and farming operational practices preferred.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
  • Associates degree preferred.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Safety-oriented with a strong commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suites.
  • Ability to maintain student conduct and promote positive behavior.
  • Ability to assist students with diverse learning needs.
  • Ability to operate equipment safely.
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative approach.
