How You’ll Add Value

The Biobank & Compound Management Technician is responsible for the full life cycle of the small molecule compounds stored at Azenta. The incumbent is accountable for performing all assigned tasks with full attention and accuracy while maintaining the integrity of the material and the storage processes. The incumbent is also responsible for performing data entry, data analysis, cleaning, maintenance/qualification activities and facilities activities to ensure smooth and continuous functioning of the repository.

What You’ll Do

Perform all functions methodically and in accordance with Policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Support day-to-day compound handling processes to fulfil sample requests in both dry and solution formats. This includes but is not limited to weighing samples, creating stock solutions, plating sample requests in various formats, and preparing samples for shipment. Adhere to FDA Good Practices (GMP, GTP, GLP, GDP), International Organization of Standards (ISO), College of American Pathologists (CAP) standards, International Air Transport Association (IATA) and other regulatory requirements as outlined in SOPs and site location. Handle materials in a manner that maintains required temperatures (+30°C to -196°C) per the project definition and SOPs. Follow all safety requirements for working with infectious and non-infectious biological materials, radioactive materials, chemical compounds and drug products. Managing the whole life cycle of the samples/materials:

Reception,

Manifesting,

Registration,

Retrievals,

Discard/Shipment,

Other client specific tasks.

Receive and process samples and inventory ensuring proper labeling, sorting, and storage. Utilize automated stores, liquid handling systems, robotic platforms, and different repository instrumentation to fulfil daily customer requests. Use the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for all sample handling tasks, including chain of custody, to ensure proper tracking of samples during regular operations. Ensure all laboratory and Biobank equipment is properly maintained and in proper working order. Responsible for order fulfillment with established timelines. Collaborate with other Azenta employees to meet customer deliverables. For sites with a laboratory:

Independently operate laboratory equipment

Accurately and precisely use of pipettes

Proper use of reagent

Manage storage of samples with established inventory management SOP. Review requests for accuracy and availability of compounds and samples. Release requests and fill orders based on order type. Prepare orders for shipments following SOPs for domestic and international shipments. Laboratory equipment maintenance and calibration (balances, automated stores, liquid handling devices). Generate reports and custom reports as assigned/ needed. Proactively manage and drive the resolution of client issues while promoting continuous process improvements. Participate in on-call rotation for emergency response in the event of a storage unit failure as needed.

What You Will Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree with some laboratory experience OR
  • Associates degree with 2+ year relevant experience OR
  • HSD with 5+ years relevant experience
  • Must be able to work as a team as well as independently
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrate high level of initiative and ability to triage/prioritize and work independently and in teams.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and make good judgment about what to reveal to customers.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal in English.
  • Ability to read/understand/interpret basic correspondence, instructions, rules, procedures in English and other location’s specific official languages.
  • Ability to make decisions and judgements based on reasoning.
  • Ability to perform tasks with care, is thorough and checks work for accuracy and completeness.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Demonstrate trouble shooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience and working knowledge of a GxP laboratory environment preferred
  • Familiarity with Titian Mosaic is preferred
  • Familiarity with liquid handling equipment such as the Echo acoustic dispenser, or Hamilton Vantage is preferred
  • Familiarity with automation, automation specialist is preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Reaching/lifting/bending
  • Extended periods of standing or sitting while wearing lab coat, safety glasses, and gloves
  • Right- and left-hand finger dexterity.
  • Ability to discern colors or use of color correction glasses.
  • Ability to work with refrigerants (e.g., dry ice and LNs) using proper PPE.

  • Employee will be working in an area with potentially infectious materials.
  • Employee will be responsible for maintaining a clean work environment and enforce and follow Universal Precautions for bloodborne pathogens when working in an area considered to be potentially contaminated.

United States Base Compensation: $22.00 - $28.00

The posted pay range for this position is an estimate based on current market data and internal pay structure. Final compensation may vary above or below this range depending on factors such as experience, education (including licensure and certifications),  qualifications, performance, and geographic location, among other relevant business or organizational needs.
