Job Description
Building Engineer – Prince George's County
Join Kay Apartment Communities' engineering team as a Building Engineer - Rover. Kay's engineering department is responsible for maintaining the mechanical, electrical & plumbing systems of our properties and is committed to providing exceptional customer service and a comfortable living experience for our residents.
The Engineer reports to the Regional Engineering Supervisor and is supported by the manager of maintenance and safety.
Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional customer service and effectively communicate with residents, guests, visitors and staff within company policies and Fair Housing laws.
- Oversee serviced performed by contractors on the mechanical, electrical & plumbing systems.
- Perform daily, weekly, monthly and annual inspections of building systems and central plant equipment as defined in our preventative maintenance program.
- Preform diagnostics, repairs, replacements and installations of items such as:
- Chillers
- Boilers (Hot Water & Steam)
- Pumps
- Cooling Towers
- Heat Exchangers
- Air Compressors
- Controls
- Control Valves
- Motor Starters
- VFDs
- Domestic Water Distribution Piping
- Hot/Chilled Water Distribution Piping
- Exhaust/Supply Fans
- Fan Coil Units
- Split System AC/Heat Pump Units
- Ensure that service and repair requests are completed in a safe, prompt and professional manner
- Assist community manager in scheduling system outages for repairs, contracted services and major improvement projects
- Maintain routine & critical parts inventory.
- Ensure all company-owned tools & equipment is in good working condition.
- Support technicians with maintenance emergencies (24/7)
- Assist and provide Service Technicians with technical support
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience on central plant operations, plumbing and electrical systems
- Universal CFC Certification
- Operating Engineer License preferred
- EMS/BAS experience preferred
- Able to read and understand blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, and manufacturers specifications
- Ability to work with a team as well as work independently and professionally
- Excellent organizational, communication and customer service skills
- Adhere all to safe work practices
- Basic computer skills
- Able to work on-call and when needed, extended hours (including after hours and weekends)
- Maintain a valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Must have own hand tools
- Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus
