Job description:
Position Overview:The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for building the company brand as the premier choice for window and door solutions in the trade industry. The BDM identifies and develops new accounts, then transitions them to Trade Account Managers for long-term management. This role proactively originates relationships with builders, contractors, architects, remodelers, and trade organizations, spending more than 70% of work time in the field meeting prospects. The BDM independently manages their schedule, with flexibility for evenings and weekends to meet customer needs.
Key Functions & CompetenciesProspecting & New Business Development
Identify and develop a focused target list of B2B prospects to accelerate Trade and Commercial sales. Conduct 3–5 prospect appointments daily; maintain disciplined CRM updates and prospect list management. Leverage sales process steps (Find, Know, Influence) to qualify leads before handoff. Originate new accounts by networking, referrals, and proactive outreach. Develop understanding of prospect business models, KPIs, and customer base to determine fit with the company. Convey company's value proposition and position the company as a trusted partner.Relationship Management & Handoff
Build trust-based relationships with prospects through a consultative sales approach. Ensure effective handoff to Trade Account Managers, thanking prospects and positioning company's full support team. Maintain communication with prospects post-handoff as a trusted reference point. Write personalized thank-you notes and follow-ups to reinforce relationships. Represent company at trade shows, builder associations, and professional events.Sales Execution & Metrics
Actively influence specifications and positioning of Pella products within the trade market. Drive measurable outcomes: o Key Metrics: Number of new accounts converted, new account sales dollars. o KPI's: Daily prospect appointments, CRM activity, and updates to prospect list. Provide daily debriefings on prospect activity with manager; participate in all sales meetings.Technical & Administrative Competence
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, smart devices, and CRM systems; quick to adopt new applications. Strong organizational skills to manage pipeline, follow-up, and reporting with accuracy. Able to work independently while keeping leadership informed of progress.Physical Demands & Work Environment
Frequent driving to customer/prospect locations. Regularly required to walk, sit, reach, communicate, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Work environment varies: office, job sites, trade shows, and professional eventsJob Type: Full-time
