Position Summary

Position Summary: The Business Intelligence Analyst at Velocity Risk will work closely with the product, catastrophe modeling, actuarial, and claims teams to understand their data needs, automate tasks, analyze complex datasets related to catastrophe-exposed commercial property, and deliver insightful reports, interactive dashboards, and advanced analytics.The ideal candidate will have an inherent drive to solve puzzles and use creativity to resolve complex problems. We will be looking for an individual who is able to see the forest and the trees simultaneously. Experience in the E&S catastrophe-exposed property market, business intelligence, or data analytics are a plus. The individual will need to thrive in a dynamic environment at a company that has retained its startup DNA. Location: Nashville, TN (Hybrid, Tues-Thurs In-Office)

What will your job entail?

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and Maintain BI Solutions: Design, build, deploy, and maintain robust and scalable BI solutions, including interactive dashboards (e.g., Tableau), scorecards, and ad-hoc reports that provide clear insights into business performance and risk accumulations.

  • Data Analysis and Interpretation: Analyze large, complex datasets from diverse sources, including policy administration systems, claims databases, catastrophe modeling outputs (e.g., AIR), and third-party vendor data. Identify trends, patterns, correlations, and opportunities related to underwriting performance, pricing accuracy, loss drivers, market dynamics, and operational efficiency.

  • Cross Team Support: Provide analytical and technical support to the product, catastrophe modeling, actuarial, claims, underwriting, and operations team by developing tools, reports, and analyses that enhance risk selection, pricing decisions, and portfolio optimization.

  • Data Quality, and Integrity: Apply rigorous data validation processes, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and reliability of data used for analysis and reporting. Work proactively with data engineering and other business units to identify and resolve data anomalies and discrepancies.

  • Process Improvement and Automation: Identify opportunities to streamline and automate data collection, transformation, reporting, and analytical processes to improve efficiency, reduce manual effort, and accelerate the delivery of insights.

  • Knowledge Sharing: Support fellow department members on Tableau, SQL, Python, and other technologies.

  • Stay Current with Industry Trends: Maintain an awareness of industry best practices, emerging BI technologies, advanced analytical methodologies, and evolving trends within the P&C, E&S, and catastrophe risk insurance markets.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree. Prefer Business Analytics, Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Finance, Actuarial Science, or a related quantitative field. A Master's degree is a plus.

  • Experience:

    • Experience in a Business Intelligence Analyst, Data Analyst, or similar role is encouraged. Graduating students with relevant education are also welcome to apply.

    • Experience within the Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance industry is welcomed.

    • Additionally, experience in E & S commercial property and/or catastrophe-exposed risks, is a plus.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Advanced Proficiency in Python and SQL (MSSQL and SnowSQL)

    • Experience with BI platforms such as Tableau (preferred), or PowerBI

    • Experience with Sagemaker, Bedrock, or Databricks are a plus

    • Familiarity with catastrophe modeling outputs (e.g., from RMS, AIR) is a plus

  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities. Ability to deconstruct complex problems, analyze diverse data sources, and synthesize information into clear, actionable insights and recommendations.   • Communication and Presentation Skills: Competence in verbal, written, and visual communication skills. Ability to articulate complex analytical concepts and findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, in a clear, concise, and impactful manner.

  • Business Acumen: Preexisting understanding of the industry or the ability to learn it

  • Project Management and Adaptability: Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously, prioritize effectively, and adapt to changing business needs and priorities in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment, fostering strong relationships with colleagues across various departments.

The target salary range for this position is $62,000.00 - $70,300.00 annually.

The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. The pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
