Job Description
How You'll Contribute
The Human Resources (HR) team works to find, grow and retain talent and build the NGS community. HR is dedicated to designing and building people and total reward strategies that enhance employee culture and the employee experience at NGS. The HR department includes the Business Partners, Total Rewards & Recognition, and Talent Management teams, and it leads the internship program.
Reporting to the Senior Director for Staff Talent Management, the Talent Acquisition Specialist will work with the Talent Acquisition team to ensure effective recruitment by providing applicant sourcing, recruiting, administrative, process and scheduling support. The Specialist will be instrumental in providing a more streamlined experience in the recruiting and hiring process and in helping to identify and onboard extraordinary talent.
This is a fixed-term role through August 2026.
Your Impact
Responsibilities Include
Sourcing & Recruiting (70%)
Conduct application reviews and present qualified candidates to Talent Acquisition Partners
Assist in recruiting for frontline operations or high-volume roles, including posting jobs, conducting phone screens, and communicating with candidates
Create templates for phone screens, interview questions, and rubrics
Use LinkedIn, job boards, and internal databases to identify and engage potential candidates for open roles
Providing support at job fairs and recruitment events
Conduct reference calls and coordinate background screening processes to ensure timely and compliant candidate vetting
Administrative Support (30%)
Work collaboratively with the Talent Acquisition team to provide administrative, logistics, and scheduling support throughout the recruiting and hiring process
Coordinate phone, video, and onsite interviews with hiring managers and panels, ensuring seamless communication with candidates and interview teams
Post jobs to job boards and pay invoices related to advertising
Serve as the main point of contact with hiring managers, IT, Facilities, and the Total Rewards team to coordinate onboarding schedule & logistics for new hires
Update team organizational tools, such as dashboards, metrics, work plans, roadmaps, and project management systems
What You'll Bring
Educational Background
Bachelor's Degree preferred but not required
Minimum Years and Type of Experience
3+ years of work experience with recruiting, talent acquisition, or Human Resources
Previous experience in retail, hospitality, museums, attractions, or similar guest-focused environments is a plus
Necessary Knowledge and Skills
Experience providing support to a team, scheduling, managing processes, and maintaining spreadsheets, databases and reports
Strong verbal and written communication abilities
Strong organizational skills with ability to multitask and collaborate across departments
Ability to maintain confidentiality and work proactively
Desired Qualifications
Experience with an Applicant Tracking System (ATS)
Familiarity with LinkedIn Recruiter and Google Suite

Salary Information

The salary range for this position accounts for a wide range of factors including but not limited to organizational need; specific skill sets; experience and training; certifications; and more. At the National Geographic Society, individuals are typically hired at or near the starting point of the salary range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
The salary range for this position is $71,200 - $75,000.

Job Designation
Hybrid - At the Society, we believe in the advantages of coming together to build community, mentor and learn from colleagues, and connect more deeply with our mission. As a result, the majority of our staff are Hybrid. Our Hybrid category requires that staff work at Base Camp two days each week: every Tuesday and Wednesday. Hybrid staff are also always welcome to come in additional days each week if preferred.
