Job Description
Farel is a San Francisco-based startup revolutionizing how airlines manage inventory and sales with our cutting-edge SaaS platform. Backed by over $4M in funding from top-tier Silicon Valley investors—including Y Combinator (the launchpad for Airbnb, Dropbox, and Coinbase)—we're building the future of airline commerce. Our founding team previously built and exited a successful online travel agency (OTA), and now we’re assembling a world-class team across the US, Georgia, Turkiye, Kazakhstan, Brazil, and Mexico to tackle our next ambitious challenge.
We are looking for a Head of Development to join our leadership team and drive the technical direction of our platform. This is a high-impact role where you will own the system architecture, ensure technical alignment with business strategy, and lead our development team toward scalable and innovative solutions. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our product and technology stack while mentoring and guiding engineers across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and evolve the architecture of our SaaS platform, ensuring it is scalable, maintainable, and aligned with long-term business goals.
- Act as a critical link between the product and engineering teams—translating business requirements into efficient, high-quality technical solutions.
- Lead high-level technical discussions and make key architectural decisions that shape the direction of the product.
- Define technical project roadmaps in collaboration with product and development teams, ensuring timely and strategic delivery.
- Establish and champion best practices in software development across backend and frontend teams, focusing on quality, performance, and security.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership and mentorship to developers, promoting growth and alignment with the overall technical vision.
- Monitor technical risks, identify bottlenecks, and continuously optimize the architecture to support product evolution and scalability.
Qualifications:
- 6+ years of experience in software architecture, technical leadership, or senior engineering roles.
- Strong expertise in Spring, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, Angular, Azure, Kubernetes, and GitLab.
- Demonstrated success in leading development teams and translating complex business needs into scalable, high-performance systems.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to align cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- A strong product mindset with a deep understanding of how technical decisions impact the user and business outcomes.
