Job Description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
VISIBILITY/SECURITY MONITORING
- Maintains visibility on in-patient units.
- Monitors entrances in assigned location or via video surveillance.
- Interacts with the public and provides effective/excellent customer service.
- Uses verbal or de-escalation techniques to manage conflicts.
- Inspects, secures, and records all patient belongings upon entering the building and ensures that the belongings are returned upon discharge or exit from the building.
- Ensures that all employees and visitors have proper credentials for accessing buildings (ID badges or passes).
- Takes proactive steps to create a safe environment for staff, patients, and visitors.
- Monitors alarm and security systems.
- Operates the Access Control Systems and access cards.
- Records relevant shift-related activities in Security Log.
- Day Room presence during mealtimes (Adolescent and Tween Units)
- Family visitation (retrieve patient from hospital unit and escort to and from the Hobby-skills Room and remain with patient during visitation).
- 1:1s in the hospital units (change/rotate every 2 hours).
INTERVENTIONS
- Responds to disruptive situations as needed (angry visitors, suspect person, etc.) as an interim measure prior to calling law enforcement.
- Responds to patient escalation events, restraint, and seclusion incidents in the hospital. Assists in restraining individuals who present a safety risk as clinically determined by an RN or physician in accordance with therapeutic intervention programs.
- Calls for law enforcement support when needed.
- Responds to emergencies, bomb threats, fire alarms, or other alarms in compliance with established policies and procedures.
EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DUTIES
- Executes emergency procedures
- Monitors performance and effectiveness of hospital fire protection systems, including the fire and emergency drills as scheduled.
- Assists with the department's responsibilities for compliance with The Joint Commission standards and NFPA requirements as assigned.
- Prepares written security incident reports as needed
- Completes training related to emergency management as assigned.
- Assists in the annual delivery of Emergency Management Preparedness training as assigned.
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
- Patient transports (radiology, lab, urgent care, ER, direct admits from NV or Frederick, etc.).
- Transport laundry to EVS Department near the end of the shift.
- Transport trash from end of hospital units (placed at the nursing station side of the unit doors) to the EVS department near the end of the shift.
- Transport meal carts back to Dietary Department following hospital meals.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned by supervisor.
Education- High School Degree or equivalent required; Associate degree in related field preferred.
Experience- Prior safety/security experience in a healthcare or long term care setting preferred. Experience working with the public; demonstrates excellent customer service skills.
Licensure/Certification- Valid Driver's License, A driving record as required by law for vehicle expected to operate. No record of moving violations in the past three years is preferred. Certified copy of driving record is required to be provided by team member annually on date of birth. Acknowledgement with signature to "Attestation A" of Meritus Vehicle Management Use and Control policy. Must be at least 21 years of age.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities- Experience working with the public; demonstrates excellent customer service skills. Strong verbal de-escalation skills to avert conflict.
