Job Summary

If you want to utilize your experience working with kids in a camp setting, the City of Olathe is looking for experienced individuals to work as Assistant Directors at one of five outdoor summer camps held at our beautiful Olathe parks. Come and join the fun this summer at Camp Olathe!
Olathe's 2026 camps run from Tuesday, May 26th through Friday, July 31st. Staff will need to be available for required training and meetings taking place before camp starts-
- New Hire Training: May 14th (5pm-6pm)
- All Camp Training Nights: May 18th and May 21st (5pm-8pm)
- CPR/First Aid Training (If not already certified): May 9th (9am-2pm)
STARTING HOURLY PAY RANGE: $16.50 - $18.00 based on experience

The Assistant Camp Director assists with the design and correct delivery of program activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate for the age and abilities of campers. Additionally, this position aids the Camp Director with management of the overall daily operations of the City's outdoor day camp for elementary-age children.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinates the work of camp staff; assigns tasks; trains on task performance; schedules work shifts; reviews and evaluates performance.
Assists with and ensures essential tasks for the opening and closing of camp for the summer season are completed; acts as support when needed to prepare, set up for and clean up after activities; assists campers with self-selected activities; assists with preparing, serving, and cleaning up after snacks.
Demonstrates excellent customer service; communicates effectively with parents, campers, camp staff, and supervisors.
Follows and assists to ensure staff follow all City, KDHE and camp policies and procedures; follows basic supervision responsibilities; ensures staff are staying and interacting with campers at all times; participates as needed with campers in group and individual activities; enforces safety rules; intervenes when campers are likely to injure themselves or others.
Stays current and assists to ensure all staff are current on required training as necessary: First Aid and CPR; child abuse and neglect awareness; signs and symptoms of illness; Olathe seasonal employee training.
Qualifications
Experience: At least two years of experience working with school-age youth is required. Experience in a camp setting is preferred.
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A bachelor's degree in child development, education, or other closely related field is preferred.
Licenses & Certifications: First Aid and CPR certification is required-training provided.
