Summary:
The Tax Senior will work with the Director of Tax and State Tax Manager to ensure the tax and business compliance of Pye-Barker and its subsidiaries. Primary responsibilities are as follows:
Job Description:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Income Tax Compliance: Work cross-departmentally to gather data and prepare tax workpapers for the Tax review. Work with Tax Director to create a quarterly tax payable calculation. Assist with notices and audits as required.
State Tax Compliance: Work with the State tax Manager to gather relevant data for third-party tax preparers and ensure that state tax returns (sales) are prepared accurately and submitted on time in compliance with relevant tax laws and regulations. Assist with notices and audits as required. Help create a process for retaining sales tax exemptions.
Tax Account Reconciliations: Perform monthly tax balance sheet account reconciliations for income, sales, and property tax accounts.
Research: Stay current with changes in tax laws and regulations and conduct research to provide informed tax advice to management. Help maintain sales tax matrix and ensure that tax rates are updated timely.
Acquisition: Attend acquisition meetings, maintain acquisition files, and update organizational chart.
Documentation: Maintain accurate and organized tax records, workpapers, and documentation to support tax positions.
Education/Qualification:
Education: A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Master's degree in taxation or a related discipline is desired.
Certification: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
Experience: Must have a minimum of 3 years experience. A mix of industry and public accounting experience preferred.
Knowledge: Needs strong understanding of tax laws and regulations, including federal, state, and local tax codes. Familiarity with tax research software is important.
Analytical Skills: Demonstrates the ability to analyze financial data, interpret tax laws, and make informed recommendations is crucial.
Attention to Detail: Tax returns and financial documents must be accurate and comply with regulations.
Entrepreneurial Spirit: Willing to run projects with little direction, brainstorm and implement process improvements, and adapt to change on the fly.
Communication and Teamwork: Collaboration with colleagues and tax providers is common and necessary, so strong interpersonal skills and effective communication are important.
Ethical Conduct: Strong desire to adhere to ethical standards and maintain confidentiality is critical in handling sensitive financial information.
Other Duties:
