Job Summary:
Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks is seeking to hire part time Custodians to work in one of our multiple facilities located throughout Baltimore City.
A Community Aide/Custodian performs a wide range of cleaning and building maintenance duties in and outside one of our multiple recreation centers or special facilities. Incumbents receive close supervision from an administrative superior. Employees work Monday through Friday 5 hours a day. Work may be performed in uncomfortable surroundings, occasionally encountering such conditions as dust, odors and inclement weather. Work requires moderate physical exertion.
IMPORTANT: Applicants must show the minimum requirements listed on their application to be eligible. This is a position of trust. Individuals selected for this position will be required to pass a Federal and State criminal background check and receive clearance from Child Protective Services prior to being appointed.
Essential Functions:
This position will be responsible for performing a variety of custodial duties which may include, but not limited to, the following: including dusting, mopping, sweeping, and mopping floors, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, cleaning and restocking restrooms and kitchen areas. Responsibilities include:
- Keeping the building and outdoor property in clean and orderly condition
- Performing both routine and heavy cleaning duties
- Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming floors as needed throughout the day
- Gathers trash and recycling both throughout the facility and outdoor campus
- Manages inventory of cleaning supplies
Successful candidates will work an 8-hour shift with a 40-minute unpaid lunch break 5 days per week.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Have graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
AND
Experience: One year of customer service and clerical experience.
OR
Equivalency Notes: Six months of additional experience can be substituted for one year of High School up to two years only.

Background Check
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
Probation
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
