This position will coordinate, organize, and supervise group fitness classes, participants, and instructors for both land and aqua fitness. This position will implement fitness programming and training to all group fitness instructors at the Family Fitness Center. Position requires a flexible schedule including weekdays, evenings, weekends and holidays.
Starting Pay: $18.50 per hour additional pay depending on experience.
Schedule: Part time. Shifts vary between 7am-6pm.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for working with Program/Activity Section Supervisor on overall organization, implementation, administration, evaluation of group fitness programs/ instructors and formats to achieve program objectives.
- Prepare reports of participation to determine the level of success.
- Schedule and prepare regular staff meetings and agendas.
- Demonstrate specific skills and teaching techniques for all formats of group fitness classes offered.
- Inventory equipment and supplies regularly.
- Assist in recruiting, supervising, evaluating, and training all part-time group fitness instructors and develop and promote good working relationships with all instructors.
- Assist in helping to retain current and bring in new participants by creating an enjoyable environment.
- Keep up current trends and techniques in fitness and coordinates special events and programs.
- Assist in handling of patron complaints and suggestions.
- Market group fitness programs assisting with the creation, distribution and updating of flyers, posters and other marketing.
- Administers surveys to determine public needs and obtain suggestions for program changes and identify needs and feasibility of current and future group fitness programs.
- Attends all required trainings and meetings and comply with all Fitness Center and City policies.
- Assumes responsibility for completing related duties as required or assigned by the Program/Activity Section Supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise part-time group fitness instructors.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Knowledge of Aerobic and Aquatic fitness programs.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other organizations, patrons, community leaders, and the public.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Planning and organizational abilities.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Graduation from a standard senior high school or GED equivalent.
- One year of teaching as Group Fitness instructor for land/water.
- One year of supervisory experience preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Must be proficient in English.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Have or obtain within 6 (six) months and maintain with continued education an ACE or AFAA certification; a Water Fitness Instructor certification; Cycling Instructors must hold a certification from a nationally recognized organization.
- Have or obtain within 30 (thirty) days First Aid and CPR certifications.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee may be required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is in a highly fast-paced environment required attention to detail, flexibility and adaptability. The employee may occasionally work in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to hot, wet and/or humid conditions.
While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is moderately loud when in various facility areas or outside.
