We are seeking a motivated Civil Engineer I – Facilities professional to support disaster recovery and infrastructure rehabilitation efforts within the National Forests in North Carolina in response to Hurricane Helene. The selected candidate will assist with the evaluation, design, repair, and rehabilitation of public facilities and infrastructure to restore critical operations and improve resilience against future natural disasters.

So, what will the Civil Engineer I at Terrestris do?
The Civil Engineer I will provide Facilities project support services focusing on disaster recovery project development and including preliminary survey and information gathering, design, and associated general engineering duties in support of the disaster recovery efforts of the National Forests in North Carolina Facilities Engineering program.
What does a typical day look like for the Civil Engineer I?
You will:
- Conduct detailed site assessments of infrastructure including recreation sites and buildings, administrative sites and buildings, water and wastewater systems, and trails as directed by engineering program.
- Following site survey, contractor shall assist in the engineering program in the development of potential courses of action.
- Prepare complete preliminary and final construction documents for projects of low to moderate complexity consisting of drawings, exhibits, reports, specifications and cost estimates for projects as directed by the COR. All cost estimates and contract documents must be reviewed and approved by the FS.
- Perform duties related to all aspects of the design, including planning, fieldwork, contract document preparation and cost estimating. Projects are widely ranging in scope, size and discipline and may include the following elements: site grading; water, sewer and stormwater systems; minor electrical distribution; facility repairs and alterations; stream restoration, and erosion and sediment control.
- Low to moderate complexity is defined as projects of a routine nature and consisting of limited asset types in a single construction package. All work is performed under direct supervision of senior design engineer or program manager.
- Assist in the development of a general engineering library, including but not limited to drafting standard engineering topicals and details, composing standard specifications, and developing cost estimating information for improved efficiency and readiness for future disaster response contracts.
What qualifications do you look for?
You might be the professional we're looking for if you have:
- Authorization to work in the U.S. permanently, without sponsorship.
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related engineering discipline.
- Good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to the engineering of recreational and administrative sites and buildings.
- At least 5 years of experience designing complete civil engineering projects of low to moderate complexity, according to clear and specified objectives.
- At least 2 years of experience preparing cost estimates and writing project specifications for civil engineering projects, according to clear and specified objectives.
- Proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD and Civil3D design software.
Special Note:
Contractor will be expected to travel to project locations for contract inspections as well as pre-design scoping activities and surveys. The contractor will be responsible for providing their own means of transportation.
