HIRING RANGE: $34.42 - $38.24/hour
The Civilian Criminal Investigator serves in a non-sworn capacity as a criminal case investigator to an assigned division within the Police Department. The Civilian Criminal Investigator's primary responsibility is conducting follow-up investigation of felony and misdemeanor criminal cases, cold cases, preparation of case filings, authoring of warrants, preparing summonses, and interviewing involved parties including suspects.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesIncumbent is accountable for all duties of this job and other projects and responsibilities may be added at the City’s discretion. Employees must be able to perform the essential duties of this job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
- Conducts follow-up investigations as assigned including felony and misdemeanor criminal cases.
- Recommends case resolution to include charging recommendations.
- Assists with construction of case files for presentation to the District Attorney’s Office (DA).
- Authors warrant applications.
- Authors criminal summonses.
- Processes, seizes, and books physical evidence in accordance with department policies and procedures and rules of criminal evidence.
- Reviews files and completes necessary supplemental reports on cases.
- Receives subpoenas to testify in court and may be required to do so regarding case investigations.
- Assists with discovery related tasks for assigned cases and the cases of coworkers.
- Other duties as assigned, specific to the unit of assignment.

Supervision Received: Receives direction from the Sergeant of the assigned unit.

Education and Experience
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience: Two or more years prior experience as a sworn peace officer
Certification/Licenses/Specialized Training
- Driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required
- Ability to be NCIC/CCIC certified within six-months of hire
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Must successfully complete and maintain required state or departmental physical standards and certifications.
LIGHT WORK: Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.

Environmental Conditions may include
- Work involves extensive telephone contact, as well as in-person contact with citizens and co-workers.
- Work involves large caseloads, frequent contact with irate or upset crime victims, witnesses, or suspects.
- Work is performed primarily in an office environment, but will also involve field work both indoors and outdoors including collecting evidence, interviewing suspects and witnesses, etc.
