Job Description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs enforcement of parking, traffic control, abandoned vehicles, crowd control, and road closures within the Town.
  • Enforces municipal ordinances by issuing summonses and conducting follow-up activities to ensure compliance with orders. Testifies in Court as required.
  • Responds on-site to traffic accidents and minor criminal offenses. Drives to site, investigates, prepares a case report, or assists Officers.
  • Responds to non-emergent citizen calls for service in the front lobby, collecting relevant information and initiating reports.
  • Reports irregular circumstances to law enforcement staff.
  • Provides public safety at community events and collaborates with event organizers and local businesses in the downtown area.
  • Provides security for weekly Municipal Court sessions. Guards entry, monitors metal detector, performs searches as necessary. Investigates and takes appropriate action regarding suspicious activities and safety incidents.
  • Provides court-ordered fingerprinting. Explains the process, collects the print using a scanner or ink and paper, and ensures a quality print.
  • Assists with cases reported online by performing follow-up with involved parties to clarify and gather additional information.
  • Communicates to provide information and directions in a manner that develops external relationships with people of all ages from diverse economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Provides training/ onboarding to volunteer Community Service Officers.

Minimum Qualifications:

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent

Experience: Six (6) months of customer service experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience that produces the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position; Must be at least 18 years of age on date of hire; Ability to become CCIC/NCIC certified and LiveScan certified

Certifications and/or Licenses Required:

  • Valid Driver's License

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Skilled in report writing and written documentation
  • Strong skills in communication, listening, and crisis intervention techniques
  • Working knowledge of computer software applications and typing
  • Ability to learn radio etiquette
  • Ability to exercise compassion and empathy with people in emergent and non-emergent situations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to demonstrate a dedication to public safety and personal integrity
  • Ability to make complicated and appropriate decisions in high stress, emergent situations while maintaining composure
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work outdoors (year-round), operate vehicles in adverse conditions, and operate radios and other assigned equipment
  • Ability to physically drive to and access all sites within Town limits to perform duties, potentially in any weather and environmental conditions
  • Ability and willingness to engage and communicate effectively with coworkers and the community and to act as a liaison
  • Ability to learn the applicable laws, ordinances, town's geography, and department rules and regulations
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to become certified in First Aid and CPR
  • Ability to work holidays and weekends
  • Ability to attend mandated internal and external department trainings
  • Sedentary work for long periods of time
  • Occasional physical work lifting no more than 10 pounds
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, walking and standing
  • Occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and office equipment
  • Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information
  • Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens
  • Works primarily in a clean, comfortable environment
  • Uses standard office equipment including a personal computer system
  • This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.

Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment background check which may include a driving record and criminal background check, fingerprint analysis, polygraph, and psychological exam.
