Job Description

Academic Requirements:    Required-High School Diploma or GED EquivalentWork Experience:   Required-Proven experience as custodian, janitor or in a similar role.

Critical Action Items & Measurable Deliverables:

  • 1.    
  • Sweep, mop and/or vacuum floors. Wipe baseboards as needed.
  • 2.    
  • Empty interior and exterior trash and take to collection point. Replace liners. 
  • 3.    
  • Clean wastebaskets and trash receptacles as needed. 
  • 4.    
  • Clean, dust, polish, and wipe office furniture, desks, tables and other office fixtures.
  • 5.    
  • Thoroughly disinfect high touch surfaces including but not limited to door handles and light switches multiple times daily.
  • 6.    
  • Inspect and pickup building entrance(s).
  • 7.    
  • Clean entrance metal/glass and remove fingerprints as needed.
  • 8.    
  • Spot clean walls, partition glass and doors throughout building.
  • 9.    
  • Clean and disinfect elevator interior and exterior, as applicable.
  • 10.    
  • Remove fingerprints and smudges from light switches.
  • 11.    
  • Clean and disinfect all counters and sinks; spot clean fronts of cabinets to remove drips and splashes.
  • 12.    
  • Dust, clean, and sanitize all window ledges and horizontal surfaces. 
  • 13.    
  • Damp wipe/disinfect door frames.
  • 14.    
  • Wipe/clean vending machines and appliances.
  • 15.    
  • Continually monitor breakroom(s)/conference room(s)/training room(s), remove trash, keep surfaces free of debris, wipe and disinfect all surfaces multiple times daily.
  • 16.    
  • Tidy furniture as needed. 
  • 17.    
  • Polish all bright work/stainless steel and water fountains.
  • 18.    
  • Address emergency janitorial needs as directed by FirstDay Foundation management.

    Restroom Cleaning:

  • 1.    
  • Stock towels, tissue, hand soap, and any other restroom dispensers as necessary. Ensure all dispensers are fully functional.
  • 2.    
  • Clean and polish mirrors.
  • 3.    
  • Wipe towel cabinets.
  • 4.    
  • Clean and disinfect all toilets and urinals inside and out.
  • 5.    
  • Scour and sanitize all sinks/basins.
  • 6.    
  • Dust partitions, mirrors and frames.
  • 7.    
  • Remove splash marks from walls around sinks/basins.
  • 8.    
  • Mop and rinse restroom floor with disinfectant.
  • 9.    
  • Disinfect and deodorize floor drains in restrooms and custodial closets.

    Exterior Cleaning:

  • 1.    
  • Sweep/wash exterior entrances/door jams/thresholds regularly. 
  • 2.    
  • Perform grounds maintenance such as watering plants and picking up trash from grounds, including lawn and shrubbery.
  • 3.    
  • Blow leaves off parking lots regularly.
  • 4.    
  • Power wash sidewalks and parking lots as needed.

    Additional Related Duties/Tasks:

  • 1.    
  • Move furniture, equipment, supplies and tools on an as needed basis.
  • 2.    
  • Survey all building spaces to ensure cleanliness; and to ensure that all assets and property are maintained in an appropriate manner.
  • 3.    
  • Safely operate heavy cleaning equipment such as carpet extractor, leaf blower, pressure washer or wet and dry vacuum.
  • 4.    
  • Set up/tear down facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc. as requested.
  • 5.    
  • Report building maintenance issues to VP of Property and Risk Management for correction.
  • 6.    
  • Complete cleaning work orders requested by staff and volunteers in a timely manner.
  • 7.    
  • Interface with staff and directors as needed to resolve housekeeping, event set up and teardown issues.
  • 8.    
  • Perform routine maintenance of cleaning equipment and assist with minor office repairs and tasks as needed such as replacing light bulbs or ceiling tiles.
  • 9.    
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning agents, consumables and equipment.
  • 10.    
  • Order supplies as needed or notify supervisor.
  • 11.    
  • Keep custodial closets clean and organized.

    Other Responsibilities:

  • 1.    
  • Perform other job duties as assigned by VP of Property and Risk Management and/or Executive Leadership.
  • 2.    
  • Attend periodic trainings and meetings as requested.
  • 3.    
  • Participate in emergency drills and environmental safety activities as requested.  

    Requirements:

  • 1.    
  • Ability to determine type of chemicals and equipment necessary for specific cleaning tasks.
  • 2.    
  • Be willing and able to communicate timely and effectively both verbally and via e-mail and text messaging.
  • 3.    
  • Possess a valid work eligibility status and pass all background checks.
  • 4.    
  • Ability to work independently or as a team.
  • 5.    
  • Strong attention to detail and able to prioritize.
  • 6.    
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • 7.    
  • Must be willing to work a flexible job schedule and answer calls/texts outside of normal business hours.
  • 8.    
  • Ability to travel to other assigned work locations for special events and trainings as requested. 
  • 9.    
  • Follows instructions and is eager to learn.
  • 10.    
  • Presents a neat and professional appearance.
  • 11.    
  • Possesses a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • 12.    
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, squat, twist, reach, pull and lift objects up to 25lbs.
  • 13.    
  • Must be able to walk or stand for the duration of the shift.English (United States)
