Are you a seasoned Progress OpenEdge professional looking to take your skills to the next level in a forward-thinking SaaS environment? DMSi is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to be a key player in evolving and maintaining our mission-critical Progress Database and Application Server infrastructure. This is your opportunity to directly impact our hosted ERP environment while driving modernization and scalability.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Own the Progress OpenEdge Design, implement, optimize, and maintain the OpenEdge Database and App Server infrastructure of DMSi's hosted SaaS environment.
- Act as the go-to Progress Be the escalation point for complex OpenEdge performance, connectivity, and configuration issues across hosted environments.
- Implement DR strategies. Design and test disaster recovery plans for databases and application layers across the hosted customer base.
- Lead migrations. Guide and execute customer migrations from on-premise to our SaaS platform, including scripting, automation, and process development.
- Drive system reliability. Proactively monitor and tune systems to ensure optimal performance, high availability, and scalability of OpenEdge and related components.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to proactively monitor, enhance, and document our Progress and ERP infrastructure.
- Support and maintain supporting systems across Windows, Linux, and Progress Rollbase.
- Participate in after-hours upgrades, troubleshooting and/or on-call availability as needed.
- Ensure supported systems are highly reliable, secure, and performing at acceptable levels.
- Provide oversight of server resources, application logs, scheduled tasks, and backups/restores.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Cloud/SaaS - Overall design and administration.
Proven experience in Progress OpenEdge administration, optimization, and replication.
A strong understanding of relational databases (MS-SQL, Oracle, DB2, etc.).
Comfort across operating systems: Linux/UNIX, Windows, AIX.
Scripting chops in Python, PowerShell, or Unix Shell.
Database replication experience, Progress Database preferred.
Familiarity with cloud services such as AWS is a plus.
Progress Rollbase administration.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent professional experience.
5+ years of hands-on experience with systems engineering and database administration.
Proven background providing Level 3 technical support and issue resolution in a hosted or SaaS environment.
Comfortable participating in after-hours upgrades and on-call rotations.
Experience developing onboarding/migration workflows using automation tools.
WORK EXPERIENCE AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Normal office environment with use of computers and telephone systems; no unusual physical demands.
Travel to customer locations including overnight, business air travel, and car rental.
