Database Administrator (RaptorDB Migration & Optimization)

Job Description

We are looking for a skilled and adaptable Database Administrator (DBA) to support a migration from MariaDB (or Postgres) to RaptorDB, ServiceNow's new high-performance data engine. This role involves ongoing performance tuning and back-end database optimization within a classified environment. Note: RaptorDB is a new ServiceNow-native data engine. Direct experience is not expected. We are especially interested in DBAs with strong MariaDB or Postgres backgrounds who are eager to learn and adapt to cutting-edge database platforms.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Support the migration from MariaDB/Postgres to RaptorDB, ensuring a smooth transition without loss of data and functionality.
  
• Continuously tune and optimize database performance to meet the requirements of high load and complex data operations within ServiceNow.
• Collaborate with platform teams to support overall system performance, ensuring tight integration and optimal data flow between systems.
• Maintain and upgrade database scripts, configurations, and performance monitoring tools to prevent potential failures and bottlenecks.
• Stay abreast of the latest developments in RaptorDB and related technologies, applying best practices and innovations to our processes.
• Document all operational procedures and modifications to the database systems to maintain a reliable reference and compliance.
• Perform extensive testing and validation of new database features and updates to ensure compatibility and performance standards are met.
• Provide expert troubleshooting and problem-solving solutions during critical issues and system downtimes to minimize impact on business operations.
• Participate in regular security audits to identify and rectify vulnerabilities, ensuring robust protection from external threats and unauthorized access.
• Facilitate training sessions and workshops for junior database administrators and other tech staff to enhance team capabilities and knowledge.
  

Requirements

• Active TS/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph (FSP) — non-negotiable. Candidates without this clearance will not be considered.

• Strong experience as a DBA supporting relational databases.
• Proficiency in SQL, performance tuning, and scripting.
• Experience with MariaDB, Postgres, or similar platforms.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with ServiceNow or modern enterprise platforms.
• Interest in emerging technologies like RaptorDB.
• Experience supporting back-end performance in Agile or DevSecOps environments.
• ServiceNow certifications (any level) are a plus, but not required.

Additional Info:

• RaptorDB is a newly developed, high-performance data engine purpose-built for ServiceNow. Direct experience is rare, but we are open to training a strong DBA with a solid track record in MariaDB, Postgres, or similar platforms who is ready to grow into this emerging space.
