501505 Mechanical Design Engineer

Work Location:            Huntsville, AL

Schedule:                    Full Time 40 hours per week; 8 hours per day in office (remote work is not authorized)

Relocation:                  Negotiable

IronMountain Solutions is currently seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. In this role, you will support the design and development of mechanical components and systems, collaborating with experienced engineers to create innovative solutions for our projects supporting the Redstone Aviation Propulsion Test and Research (RAPTR) facility within the Redstone Test Center in Huntsville, AL. A strong work ethic, the ability to work effectively with others and a healthy desire to acquire new skills through hands-on engineering are paramount in this position. An active and transferrable DoD Secret level security clearance is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design, analysis, and testing of mechanical components and systems.
  • Utilize CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) to create detailed 3D models and technical drawings to the latest ASME Y14.100 standards.
  • Conduct research and gather data to inform design decisions and ensure compliance with industry standards while minimizing project risks.
  • Support the development of prototypes and participate in testing to validate designs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality assurance, and project management to ensure designs are feasible and cost-effective.
  • Support cross-functional teams to successfully execute projects related to turbine engines, data acquisition systems, and test cell instrumentation.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of mechanical systems associated with turbine engine testing.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in test cell instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and turbine engine components.
  • Document design processes and maintain accurate records of design modifications and specifications.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for product improvement and innovation.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements to drive innovation in product development
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use tools or controls; normal physical activity (reach with hands and arms; climb stairs); and communicate effectively with all levels of employees and leadership. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 25 pounds.
  • Minimum travel expected

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • 9+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping and testing mechanical systems.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a solid understanding of mechanical principles and materials.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Must currently hold or be eligible to obtain a U.S. SECRET security clearance. Per federal requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this level of clearance.
