Postdoctoral Fellow- College Of Engineering And Sciences

The College of Engineering and Science at Florida Institute of Technology invites applicants for a full-time Post Doctoral Research Associate. Position is located in Melbourne, Florida. This position is a temporary position, for up to three years. The position will be funded via a NASA University Leadership Initiative (ULI) to conduct research under the TRANSCEND Project, Trustworthy Resilient Autonomous Agents for Safe City transportation in the Evolving New Decade. TRANSCEND is a 3-year research effort to develop a framework and tools to ensure the trustworthiness of learning-enabled increasingly autonomous systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage and conduct research in the application of Machine Learning, Formal methods, and/or cognitive architectures, primarily focused on autonomous systems for aviation, avionics, including establishing theoretical foundations, research design, modeling, implementation, analysis, and write-up of findings

• Maintain a depth of knowledge in the specialized fields of study in computer science or related fields, as mentioned previously

• Exercise independent discretion and judgment in carrying out research activities within the predetermined research scope and methodology

• Publish research findings in academic journals and present at academic conferences

• Conduct modeling with formal method-based tools, cognitive architecture, and Machine Learning focused on assurance for Safety

• Manage a research team of undergraduate and graduate student researchers

• Collaborate with researchers at other universities and labs

• Plan and implement educational outreach events

• Support program reviews with NASA program management

• Support meetings with industry stakeholders and the industry review board

• Work towards the development of research proposals

Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field

• Experience conducting theoretical and empirical research related to autonomous systems, cognitive models, avionics, aviation, and/or vision-based systems

• Experience with testbed simulation, modeling, and analysis

• Experience leading research projects/teams

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience conducting theoretical and empirical research related to Advanced Air Mobility

• Experience with X-plane simulation test-bed

• Experience with Safety based modeling and analysis with formal methods

• Experience with Safety based analysis for Machine learning

Note: If the candidate is delayed in receiving his/her diploma before the position start date, the title of Research Associate can be used with the same description and duties as the Postdoctoral Associate. The only difference would be that the qualifications would read "A pending doctoral degree in the appropriate field."

Annual Security & Fire Safety Report

The federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act) requires colleges and universities, both public and private, participating in federal student aid programs to disclose campus safety information and impose certain basic requirements for handling incidents of sexual violence and emergency situations.

Florida Tech's 2024 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus, in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by Florida Tech, and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus.

The numbers provided include crime statistics reported to local law enforcement agencies, campus security and other Campus Security Authorities.

The report also includes institutional policy statements regarding campus safety and security measures, descriptions of prevention and awareness programs, related university procedures and important guidance, and other essential safety information.

Official Transcripts

Official transcripts of all collegiate work must be sent directly from the attended institution to the Office of Human Resources prior to the first day of employment.
