Job Description

Position Summary:

The Dental Hygienist is responsible for providing high quality dental care and oral health education to CFH patients.

The Dental Hygienist is expected to work in a team-based environment where the approach is a whole person care approach that engages the patient in their health care and requires all team members to be effective and supportive communicators.  A high degree of integration and collaboration is required to meet the varying and changing needs of our patients.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Performs dental prophylaxis services through initial examination of teeth, identifying problems for dentists. Cleans, scales and polishes.
  • Applies topical fluoride and any prescribed topical medicants, antiseptic sprays or rinses.
  • Places sealants when treatment planned by a dentist.
  • Assists in rooming emergency patients.
  • Educates patients on dental hygiene and care issues.
  • Prepares patients for x-rays, takes x-rays and exposes, develops and mounts x-ray films.
  • Assists in maintenance of office and equipment by cleaning and disinfecting equipment.
  • Cleans and maintains x-ray equipment.
  • Administers local anesthesia.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work practices and instructions.

 

Education/Training/Experience:

  • Must be a licensed Dental Hygienist in the state of Michigan.
  • Must have BLS certification or the ability to attain one.
