Job Description
Design Engineer
The Design Engineer I will support the design, documentation, and production readiness of Electrical Balance of System (eBOS) components including combiner boxes, load break disconnects, and harness assemblies. This entry-level role will provide hands-on design support throughout the product lifecycle, from concept through procurement, production, and field deployment. The position works closely with senior engineers, CAD designers, and manufacturing teams to ensure products meet performance, safety, and manufacturability standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Design & Documentation: Assist in the development of 2D/3D CAD drawings, schematics, and BOMs for combiner boxes, load break disconnects, and harness assemblies. Update and maintain design documentation and technical files to align with internal standards and customer requirements. Support drafting of installation guides and submittals.
· Pre- and Post-PO Process Support: Provide technical inputs for pre-PO activities such as design clarifications, RFIs, and vendor evaluations. Track and support post-PO deliverables including as-built documentation, manufacturing support, and customer submittals.
· Production & Manufacturing Support: Collaborate with engineers and production team to resolve design-related production issues. Support root cause analysis of product nonconformities and recommend corrective design actions. Participate in DFx (Design for Manufacturability etc) and quality improvement initiatives.
· Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with supply chain, quality, and field operations teams to ensure smooth handoffs between design, procurement, and production. Engage in cross-training to build knowledge of solar eBOS systems and field installation practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
· B.S. degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or related Engineering discipline (ABET accredited).
· 0–2 years of professional engineering experience (internships or co-op experience acceptable).
· Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar).
· Familiarity with electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, or product design documentation.
· Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
