As a Design Engineering Intern, you will learn lateral frame design and analysis from the best lateral system designers in the business and be involved in all phases of a structure’s creation, from initial layout to topping out. You will assist other engineers with steel shop drawing review and lateral frame design using a whole range of structural modeling packages including RAM, ETABS, SAP, RISA, and others. You will have the opportunity to learn various codes such as the IBC & CBC building codes, the AWS Structural Welding Code, and the AISC Manual of Steel Construction. You will also learn how to optimize lateral frames using steel moment frames, shear walls, and braced frames.Our program is a paid, 12-week program that will run from Monday, May 18th through Friday, August 7th. Essential Functions
Exposed to design, analysis, modeling, (e.g. classroom projects)
Motivated and eager to learn what it takes to be a great structural engineer including a strong desire to really understand building behaviors, as well as understand the applicable building codes and computer programs used in the design & analysis of steel frame buildings
Excellent communication and is very-well organized
Enjoys being helpful to others
Competent in MS Office products
Manage own tasks and project related tasks while recognizing the relationship between individual work and the project as a whole
Responsible for self and keeping on tasks and priorities
Qualifications
Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in an accredited college degree program in Civil Engineering with Structural emphasis; ability to convert to full-time hire at the end of program
Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher; enrolled in senior year at time of program start.
Familiarity with drafting/drawing standards is a plus
Microsoft Office - Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.
