Job Description
Specific Role:
We're looking for a strong, people-focused Design Engineering Manager to lead EMIT Technologies' mechanical design function. In this role, you'll oversee the engineering design team and ensure our products are engineered with accuracy, consistency, and manufacturability in mind. You'll balance hands-on technical oversight with team leadership-partnering closely with Production, Quality, Supply Chain, and Project Management to deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions that meet customer requirements and support EMIT's long-term growth.
Key Accountabilities:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of mechanical designers and engineers, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Assign projects, set priorities, and manage workloads to ensure efficient execution and high-quality output
- Provide technical oversight for mechanical designs, including reviewing and approving SolidWorks models, drawings, and related documentation
- Ensure designs meet performance, quality, safety, and manufacturability standards before release to production
- Maintain and enforce CAD standards, part libraries, revision control practices, and documentation accuracy
- Partner with Production, Quality, and Supply Chain to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and aligned with operational capabilities
- Support Project Managers by providing design input, timelines, and technical issue resolution throughout the project lifecycle
- Collaborate with customers or internal sales teams, when needed, to clarify requirements and design intent
- Develop and refine design workflows, checklists, and design-for-manufacturability standards to reduce errors and rework
- Drive continuous improvement in design processes, tools, and documentation practices
- Encourage innovation by exploring new design methods, tools, and features within SolidWorks and related systems
- Support long-term product development efforts by contributing innovative mechanical solutions and improvement ideas
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering field, or equivalent hands-on experience
- Previous experience leading or mentoring mechanical designers or engineers
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and mechanical design best practices
- Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, design-for-manufacturability, and revision control
- Experience working cross-functionally with production, quality, supply chain, and project teams
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and standardization
- Ability to prioritize work, manage competing deadlines, and guide a team through complex projects
- Clear communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
Physical and Safety Requirements:
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time
- Occasionally lift and move office materials or documents up to 25 lbs
We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome candidates from all backgrounds.
