GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Senior Financial & Accounting Analyst is responsible for assisting with the quarterly financial statement close process for an SEC-registered company, with an emphasis on consolidation. The financial statements include consolidations of multiple operating companies and the role assists with enhancing the recently created consolidation process. Enhancements are expected to include the implementation of a system that will be adopted in phases. Throughout and subsequent to the system implementation, the role is expected to assist with consolidation of investment-related entities, including subsidiaries, joint ventures, and special purpose vehicles (SPVs), ensuring accurate elimination of intercompany transactions and balances. The role also assists with consolidations of cash flow statements, disclosures, and supplementary SEC filings.
Position sits in West Des Moines and will work an onsite hybrid schedule
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists with quarterly financial statement close process.
- Prepares consolidation and elimination entries for operating companies and investment-related entities.
- Ensures appropriate classification of investments in the financial statements.
- Prepares disclosures related to amounts associated with the consolidation process.
- Prepares key financial statement analysis files as part of quarterly close process.
- Contributes to process improvement initiatives for financial statement close process, with an emphasis on adoption of consolidation system.
- Assists in preparing Form 10-Q, Form 10-k and other SEC filings and presentations using Workiva.
- Works directly with external auditors on various reviews and audits.
- Performs other related work as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year credited college or university in accounting, finance or related field of study; plus five (5) years of progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Prior experience and proficiency with MS Excel.
- Experience working with SEC filings is a plus.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATIONS: CPA preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of the life and annuity insurance industry, including products issued, operating activities performed across the entity, and the regulatory environment.
- Broad understanding of financial statement accounts of a life and annuity company, including investment and actuarial balances.
- Knowledge of applicable SEC financial reporting rules and regulations.
- Ability to successfully handle pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
- Ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize work to meet tight quarter-end deadlines, ensuring all tasks are completed on time.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with internal and external parties at all levels.
- Strong attention to numeric and other detail; ability to work with mathematical concepts and apply to practical situations.
- Strong systems aptitude.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
