Job Description

Office Location: Fargo, NDPosition Description:This person will be located in Fargo and will report directly to the CEO but will support the company’s marketing strategy and business development initiatives companywide.  Primary responsibilities include strategic planning, team leadership, campaign management, brand management, communications, public relations, and digital marketing oversight to promote Apex’s engineering and surveying practices. The successful candidate will be a team player that can work independently and, in a group setting, alongside Apex’s business leaders, project managers, and operations staff in various engineering and surveying markets.  Qualification Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or similar business degree.   
  • Market experience in consulting engineering, architecture, or professional services industry is considered a plus.
  • Ten (10) years’ experience managing marketing staff and directing the strategic marketing effort within a business or professional services firm is required.
  • Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and employee management skills.
  • Deep knowledge of marketing tools, platforms, and industry trends.
  • Excellent written, presentation and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to complete tasks with accuracy and strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Windows/Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Flexible working style and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedules to meet deadlines and/or client needs.
  • Willing to work collaboratively with others and accept input from team members.
  • A valid driver’s license is required or the ability to obtain one.
Essential Tasks and Duties:
  • Strategic Planning
    • Participates in strategic planning sessions with Apex’s CEO and executive leadership team to develop long-range business/marketing goals and strategies to accomplish them.
    • Works with Apex’s CEO and executive leadership team to internally communicate firm’s business and marketing goals, and objectives.
  • Marketing Direction
    • Directs marketing and business development strategies while working in unison with CEO and Sector Leaders of the firm to successfully promote Apex.
    • Responsible for working with the CEO on implementation of Apex’s ‘draft’ client communications plan.
  • Marketing Management
    • Plans and executes the overall corporate marketing program comprised of individual sector marketing plans and strategies.
    • Develops and monitors marketing budget.
    • Manages marketing staff and facilitates regular marketing department staff meetings.
    • Recruits, mentors, and directs marketing staff.
    • Sets goals, assigns tasks, and ensures marketing team productivity.
    • Facilitates annual and periodic performance reviews of marketing staff.
  • Marketing Strategy and Business Planning
    • Works with CEO and Sector Leaders on industry trends to evaluate existing markets, as well as new markets and geographical expansion areas.
    • Works with CEO and Sector Leaders to target specific markets and develop short- and long-range goals and objectives related to subject markets.
    • Works with CEO and Sector Leaders to develop annual sector business plans.
  • Brand Management
    • Ensure consistent brand messaging and positioning across all Apex platforms including company website, print and digital media, and social media.
    • Manage Apex’s brand guidelines.
    • Assess, develop, and manage Apex’s internal and external communications strategies and planning efforts in collaboration with CEO, Sector Leaders, and other corporate marketing staff.
  • Business Development
    • Assist CEO, Sector Leaders, Market Leaders, marketing staff, and assigned technical staff in developing strategies for proposals, interviews, trade shows, conferences, and general marketing platforms.
    • Assess and conduct follow-up meetings for business development excursions and failed sales efforts.
General Tasks and Duties:
  • Continue to develop industry knowledge and research trends.
  • Participate in educational opportunities.
  • Accomplish organizational goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests.
  • Establish milestones for obtaining approvals and meeting deadlines.
  • Understand and follow company employee handbook and mandated safety policies.
  • Perform responsibilities in a conscientious, legal and ethical manner with a strong attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment, proofreading both creative design and content, and offer feedback to others.
  • Willing to occasionally assist with other administrative support activities.
  • Occasional travel may be required for training purposes and/or attendance/support of industry conference and trade show activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements: 
  • Ability to operate a computer under normal ergonomic office conditions.
  • Must be able to clearly articulate both verbal and written communications.
  • Required to lift and move objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to work scheduled and required hours.
