Knoxville Center for Behavioral Medicine (KCBM) is a 64-bed behavioral health facility in Knoxville, Tennessee, serving adults and geriatric patients with psychiatric, emotional, and addictive disorders. KCBM is a collaborative partnership among National HealthCare Corporation (NHC), Tennova Healthcare, and The University of Tennessee Medical Center. Our mission is to improve quality of life through personalized behavioral health care in a safe, supportive environment. We offer a full continuum of services including inpatient treatment, Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), ECT, individual therapy, and medical management.
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Director of Social Services to lead our inpatient services. This role is a senior clinician responsible for ensuring quality care to clients/patients by developing, implementing, and directing mental health treatment programs.
Qualifications
- LCSW Required.
- Master's in behavioral or mental health field required.
- One to three years' clinical experience working with behavioral health hospital with 2+ years of supervisory experience preferred.
- Acute care experience preferred.
- CPR, de-escalation, and restraint certification required (training available post hire and offered by facility).
Physical Demands
- Ability to work in an office and healthcare hospital environment, including periods of sitting, standing, walking, and computer use.
- Occasional movement throughout the hospital is needed to attend meetings, conduct inspections, and interact with staff.
- Must be able to lift to twenty pounds occasionally.
- Communicate effectively in person, by phone, and in writing.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Direct and oversee program operations program decision making requiring clinical expertise.
- Provide clinical consultation, oversight of case planning, care coordination, and supervision to the staff.
- Responsible for a limited caseload as needed.
- Develop, plan, and implement program goals, objectives, personnel, resources, and equipment.
- Ensure that services are focused on the patient(s) receiving services presenting problems and request for service.
- Monitor meetings, admission, continued stay and discharge criteria.
- Provide clinical direction and leadership.
- Direct crisis intervention efforts and intervene as required.
- Provides health education to patient(s) receiving services, staff, and practitioners within area of specialty; develops, implements, and promotes specified health education to the general campus community, as appropriate.
- Responsible for hiring staff.
- Review caseloads regularly to ensure appropriate utilization of services.
- Provide on sight coverage for other programs when needed, may provide training, case consultation and on call coverage during and after program hours as needed.
- Ensure that procedures and workflow are consistent with organizational objectives, treatment protocols, regulations, and standards of care.
Communication:
- Use language that is easily understood and appropriate for the specific situation.
- Demonstrate customer service behaviors when interacting with patients, team members, and guests.
- Communicates patient information in a concise, accurate, timely, and confidential manner.
- Utilizes available resources to assist with communication needs.
- Ensure that accurate information is communicated in a timely and effective manner throughout the hospital.
- Maintains a collaborative relationship with other departments.
Professional Image and Behavior:
- Adheres to the department hospital code standards.
- Focus on the needs of the patients and family.
- Avoids discussion of personal issues and/or complaints in the presence of the patient.
- Assumes responsibility for behaviors and actions; accepts constructive criticism in a positive manner.
- Participates in opportunities to promote professional growth.
Other Responsibilities:
- Responsible for hiring staff.
- Responsible for carrying a partial caseload (.5)
- Temporary coverage for Outpatient Director if/when vacancies arise or cover time off (e.g., vacation coverage).
- Any other duties as assigned.
